5.0 out of 5 stars Two monsters
I've just "discovered" Javier Colina here in Montevideo, Uruguay, South America, during the Jazz Tour Festival in September 2008.
I was absolutely amazed by his technique, his swing and his joy in making music.
Once at home after the concert I found this CD in Amazon and I said to myself: These two men together must be dynamite.
And they really are,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
After hearing Bebo Valdes on a Jazz station, it had a Latin big band sound. I read reviews on Amazon that this CD was the best one so far.
This CD is not a band at all.
Just an old man banging on a piano.
The whole cd sounds like one very long song.

And they really are, not in the sense of a sound explotion but of intelligence, delicacy, good taste and mutual understanding.
Bebo Valdes needs no introduction. His amazing touch is always tender, never hammering the piano even in the most turbulent passages.
Colina is the new monster of tne bass. He is evidently at ease with the latin touch but also capable of making a breathtaking solo in "Yesterdays" wich has nothing to do with latin music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cuban fun, December 1, 2008
This review is from: Live at the Village Vanguard (Audio CD)
This is Bebo, well, at his seemingly never ending prime. And the dance between he and bassist Javier Colina is the dance of two who anticipate and never overtake. I have only one disappointment in the album, which is superbly recorded, by the way, and that is that I was not at the Vanguard that night. Superb.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 31, 2009
We are all familiar with Bebo, but this recording Live in Duo with Javier Colina is EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!!.

All reviews are well written except for one U.S. reviewr, who wrote "that this is just an old man hitting a Piano" this reviewr needs his share of "RICE & BEANS" or just maybe go to an ENT doctor.

Couldnt disagree more with him , this is an excellent album , Bebo is eloquent and elegant (AS ALWAYS) without having to proff anything to nobody.

the surprise is their colaboration as DUO and JAVIER COLINA (a Monster of Rythym, Cachao most be in heaven dancing to javiers Bass) Colina is, another giant , wich Ive had the pleasure of listening to for the first time.

EXQUISITE , ELEGANT , JAZZ AT THEIR BEST FROM TWO MASTERS

Traditional jazz piano in a live venue. It doesn't get any better than this and the cuban flavor adds to the mix.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mellow piano jazz., December 12, 2008

I was pleasantly pleased with this CD. I had to listen to it carefully twice to truly appreciate the performers: Bebo Valdés and Javier Colina skillful playing of the piano and bass. The musical selections are varied, but familiar to jazz listners. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys mellow piano jazz.

4.0 out of 5 stars What took me so long to hear about this guy?, February 18, 2009
By
A jazz fan, I first heard about this musician through an interview and snips of his music on NPR, and immediately bought this, his newest CD. So glad I did. Wonderful to just sit and listen to, or play as background music during cocktail parties.
