Editorial Reviews

This fantastic live release is available on CD and vinyl and encapsulates 25 songs from ABBA's landmark gig at Wembley Arena, London in 1979. As well as featuring a full rendition of classics, this is also the first time the track 'I'm Still Alive' has ever been released.

5.0 out of 5 stars A TRUE Commemoration to ABBA THE "BAND" October 4, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Simply Phenomenal!!! People often forget that much of the TRUE Success of ABBA, could not have been possible without the distinguished Talent and Commitment of the ABBA Band. As one may know, the overall FEEL of any ABBA Track is so intricate and detailed, that it not only takes a highly skillful TEAM to magnificently achieve in a studio, but an even more dedicated Team to achieve LIVE.

This Album is the "Product" of all their hard work. Most bands today rely on Auto-Tune, Back-Tracks, and even make it a routine to Lip Sync on stage. Though one may say ABBA weren't PERFECT Live, they deserved to be "Up There Among the Ranks!" It's also great to hear Benny and his many piano rifts come through a lot better. You can really feel the sense of conviction when he plays, especially in the track "Intermezzo No.1." In the "mock-live" Album of ABBA LIVE, you can barely hear the piano, and I found the mixing rough.

The Tracks on this album are pure and honest. It was a treat to hear every voice and every harmony as one, just as it should sound! Frida was lovely in "Knowing Me, Knowing You," and It was great to hear Agnetha sing and play the piano for "I'm Still Alive." I recently bought her album, "A" and it was so beautiful. All in all, the thing I loved most about this album was the fact that it was "ABBA being ABBA." Their work cohesively is a Testament in the music industry, and after hearing this album you can understand why they deserved to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. :] Like I said, "Simply Phenomenal!!!"

5.0 out of 5 stars "Live at Wembley" is a revelation October 8, 2014
Format:Audio CD
I would say that "Live at Wembley" is an important album but that seems to burden it with more gravitas than it deserves. But it is remarkable, the first truly new Abba material released in many years. While some of this material can be heard on the concert DVD from the same 1979 tour ("Abba in Concert"), much of it has never been released before, and it has never sounded this good. The material is remastered but unenhanced , unlike the band's earlier ill-fated "Live" album (1986).

While Abba was always known for its creativity in the studio, "Live at Wembley" reveals just how amazing this band was on stage, backed by some of Europe's best musicians of the day. A friend who says he was forced to see the band perform on that tour says to this day it is one of the greatest concerts he's ever seen. Listening to this collection I can understand why.

There are a number of highlights, including Frida Lyngstad's soaring "Knowing Me, Knowing You", a song Elvis Costello has said is the best ever written about divorce, made even more poignant given that Bjorn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Faltskog's marriage was grinding to its end at the time. It's closely followed by Agnetha's plaintive "S.O.S.", concluding with the responsive "when you're gone" between her and Frida, later repeated to much less effect by Streep and Brosnan in the 2008 film version of "Mamma Mia!". Best of all is the driving medley of "Hole in Your Sole", highlighting Agentha's astonishing vocal range, together with Bjorn's indulgent rock star turn on "Does Your Mother Know". The latter showcases the band's remarkable backing band, including the great Rutger Gunnarsson on bass, Lasse Wellander on guitar and the late Ola Brunkert on drums, all of it powered by Benny Andersson's enthusiastic keyboards.

"Live at Wembley" deserves to be heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars ABBA Live - you bet!!! October 2, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Quite impressive! Sound not as crisp as the studio recordings but pleasant and encompassing. And appropriate to the venue, I would judge. But a high energy show with the many talents of ABBA coming through quite nicely. Am old enough to have been around when the were initially popular, and was only a mild fan at that point. But with the advent of Mamma Mia stage presentation, I have come to really appreciate their work and its complexity. Pleased with the recording and the experience it provides. Think it's a worthy add to any pop music CD collection. Will be listening to this for years to come. I read somewhere somebody was criticizing the cover art. I look at it and think it exemplifies a live performance perfectly. But I guess as always, art is in the eye of the beholder, but would take issue with that criticism.

5.0 out of 5 stars THANK YOU, ABBA, FOR THE LIVE MUSIC ! October 4, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I'm loving it ! Finally after all these years a complete concert recording of the tour I regretfully did not get to attend as a teen in high school, living in Arkansas...... Chicago was the nearest city on the '79 tour schedule of North America. Years later I was happy to obtain a video copy of the concert at Wembley, yet disappointed that the entire show was not filmed. So today I am thankful to have this Live recording in it's entirety....and the sound is Great ! I pump up the volume. lean back, close my eyes, and am transported to that time and place. I feel like I am in the front row and at times right on stage with ABBA. I do like this Deluxe edition book with the informative notations about the tour. This live set proves ABBA were viable live entertainers and not solely masters of the recording studio. Thank you ABBA for the live music. Now, excuse me.....I have a live concert to attend !

4.0 out of 5 stars This was a pretty good CD
This was a pretty good CD. It sounds pretty much the same as their albums. But the back ground noise was a little much for me! Plus they played songs not on their CD.
