Live, one Vince Neil song only,
By Allister Fiend (Baltimore, MD United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
I'm an idiot. I buy anything Motley Crue. I think Nikki Sixx could fart into a tape recorder and I'd probably pay $14.99 for it. I need help. The fact that I bought this is proof. It's not so bad. It's basically a Motley live album, since all the songs (minus one) are Crue tunes. That's OK, but I'm sure there are lots of fans who would agree that it would have been much more exciting to get a live CD of mostly Neil solo tunes. I've got Motley live stuff. 99% of the folks who bought this CD probably do, too. Give me something different. I read somewhere that Vince commented that there would have been more solo songs on the record, but the tapes got lost. I don't think so. I've seen Vince on every solo tour he's done, and he hasn't performed his own material in YEARS. The last time he played primarily VN songs, Steve Stevens was still in the band. I'm going to stop writing now. I've already put more effort into my review than Vince did in this CD.

Woods Rocks!!!,
By Tom Mason (Moscow, Idaho United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
First of all, this is a great album. Like everyone else, I would have liked to hear more of Vince's solo songs, but we (the fans)must take some of the blame for this. During last year's tour it was, unfortunately, made abundantly clear to Vince that he was not garnering much fan support for his solo songs while on stage, and thus, was forced to cut most of them from the set list. This is why we are left with crue tunes instead of Vince's material. However, I think that his performance at the Whiskey is first-rate anyway. Entertainment or Death was so poorly mixed that I can't hardly even listen to it, but this album has superb sound quality and flows much better because it is one show rather than a composite of songs from each tour. The actual music is excellent as well. Brent Woods does an awesome job on guitar and, in my opinion, sounds as good as Mars. His solos have just enough of his own style to make them authentic, but not to much to make them off base. You get the best taste of this on the songs "Dr. Feelgood" and "Look in her eyes." And to those who use the solo on "Smokin' in the boys room" as a reason to discredit Woods, take another listen. Vince says right at the beginning of the song, "This is a song that Brent doesn't know," meaning that Woods is going to have to improv as best he can. And considering that he doesn't even have a slide, I think he does an excellent job on the solo, given the situation. Thus, despite the fact that Vince holds back his solo material, this album is a must have for those Crueheads who have waited patiently for a high-quality live record.

A little "MOTLEY", but all "VINCE",
By "slow_n_easy72" (Hamilton, Ontario CANADA) - See all my reviews

Well, where can I start.First of all...I would start by saying this album proves that Vince, less MOTLEY CRUE, can still provide a night of solid entertainment for the CRUEHEADS at heart. With only one song, Look in her eyes, from his solo repitoire(due to stolen tapes)Neil provides an outstanding performance with a back up band of no-namers to boot..."Not" note for note CRUE style, but good enough to satisfy the CRUE fan in all of us.After all change is good, isn't it ??? Take a crowd of hundreds, pack em into a little bar, and crank it up!!! Well, thats what they've done, and done well. The sound is amazing, crisp, and clear with no drown-out. Which is typically found with any live recording in such a small venue. All in all, if your a fan of the Crue, you'll appreciate what Vince has done on this 12 track CD of Classic CRUE tunes you can pump your fists at...Thank You and GOOD NIGHT !!!
