4.0 out of 5 stars Woods Rocks!!!
First of all, this is a great album. Like everyone else, I would have liked to hear more of Vince's solo songs, but we (the fans)must take some of the blame for this. I'm an idiot. I buy anything Motley Crue. I think Nikki Sixx could fart into a tape recorder and I'd probably pay $14.99 for it. I need help. The fact that I bought this is proof.

I'm an idiot. I buy anything Motley Crue. I think Nikki Sixx could fart into a tape recorder and I'd probably pay $14.99 for it. I need help. The fact that I bought this is proof.

It's not so bad. It's basically a Motley live album, since all the songs (minus one) are Crue tunes. That's OK, but I'm sure there are lots of fans who would agree that it would have been much more exciting to get a live CD of mostly Neil solo tunes. I've got Motley live stuff. 99% of the folks who bought this CD probably do, too. Give me something different.

I read somewhere that Vince commented that there would have been more solo songs on the record, but the tapes got lost. I don't think so. I've seen Vince on every solo tour he's done, and he hasn't performed his own material in YEARS. The last time he played primarily VN songs, Steve Stevens was still in the band.

I'm going to stop writing now. I've already put more effort into my review than Vince did in this CD.

First of all, this is a great album. Like everyone else, I would have liked to hear more of Vince's solo songs, but we (the fans)must take some of the blame for this. During last year's tour it was, unfortunately, made abundantly clear to Vince that he was not garnering much fan support for his solo songs while on stage, and thus, was forced to cut most of them from the set list. This is why we are left with crue tunes instead of Vince's material.
However, I think that his performance at the Whiskey is first-rate anyway. Entertainment or Death was so poorly mixed that I can't hardly even listen to it, but this album has superb sound quality and flows much better because it is one show rather than a composite of songs from each tour.
The actual music is excellent as well. Brent Woods does an awesome job on guitar and, in my opinion, sounds as good as Mars. His solos have just enough of his own style to make them authentic, but not to much to make them off base. You get the best taste of this on the songs "Dr. Feelgood" and "Look in her eyes." And to those who use the solo on "Smokin' in the boys room" as a reason to discredit Woods, take another listen. Vince says right at the beginning of the song, "This is a song that Brent doesn't know," meaning that Woods is going to have to improv as best he can. And considering that he doesn't even have a slide, I think he does an excellent job on the solo, given the situation.
Thus, despite the fact that Vince holds back his solo material, this album is a must have for those Crueheads who have waited patiently for a high-quality live record.

5.0 out of 5 stars A little "MOTLEY", but all "VINCE", June 16, 2003

Well, where can I start.First of all...I would start by saying this album proves that Vince, less MOTLEY CRUE, can still provide a night of solid entertainment for the CRUEHEADS at heart. With only one song, Look in her eyes, from his solo repitoire(due to stolen tapes)Neil provides an outstanding performance with a back up band of no-namers to boot...

"Not" note for note CRUE style, but good enough to satisfy the CRUE fan in all of us.After all change is good, isn't it ??? Take a crowd of hundreds, pack em into a little bar, and crank it up!!! Well, thats what they've done, and done well. The sound is amazing, crisp, and clear with no drown-out. Which is typically found with any live recording in such a small venue. All in all, if your a fan of the Crue, you'll appreciate what Vince has done on this 12 track CD of Classic CRUE tunes you can pump your fists at...Thank You and GOOD NIGHT !!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Motley Fans BEWARE!, June 5, 2003

Vince Neil, lead singer of the greatest band in the world Motley Crue, and until now, quite a good solo artist, his first two albums Exposed and Carved in Stone were very comendable. BUT, on this album, he shows that he has not aged well, his voice is indeed diminishing, no longer being able to hit the high notes, possibly because of his drink problem. This "effort" from Vince and his band isn't Red Hot, it isn't even warm. From the track list you'd think that Motley Crue were playing, beacuse Vince only sings ONE of his solo songs, the rest, Crue songs, mainly from their Dr. Feelgood album. The crowd background noise is not the most enthusiastic ever heard, and the band are not on top form either. Vince Neil's reputation has preceeded him, his violent and drunk behaviour is scaring the fans away, no wonder Nikki sixx and Tommy Lee don't want to tour Motley when Vince is producing below par performances like this. BUT, if you want to listen to a Motley Crue tribute band, then this is the album for you. It isn't all doom and gloom, the renditions of Knock 'em Dead Kid and Same Ol' Situation are refreshing, and have your feet tapping, and his voice on Dr. Feelgood suggests that maybe he is putting in the effort, and that hopefully, his old bandmates in the Crue have taken note. He should have included " Your invited, ( but your friend can't come)" as this is a real party tune. Hope to see the Crue touring soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost as good without the "Crue"!, March 15, 2004
By
This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
Since the rest of Motley Crue is too lazy now to make music we have to rely on Vince Neil to carry the torch! Let's hope he continues to do so!
This live recording of Crue songs sounds a lot better than "Entertinment or Death"-the sound is clear. Of course the drumming isnt as good as Tommy's, but the cd still rocks.
Dont ever skip a chance to see Vince live, he gives a great show.

2.0 out of 5 stars No one like Mick, Tom n Nikki, June 11, 2003

I think Vince should find real musicians for his band. There is too much Wah in the songs, but the sound is raw with no corrections or anything, which makes a live recording sound "live". I am not very familiar with the Look in her eyes song, but it sounds good, but the rest of the songs are not interpreted with the feel that Mick plays them. Samantha plays better the drums than this guy, and tha bass I could hardly hear it, buy it to complete your Motley/Vince collection....not because it is a great cd like the rest of the Motley/Vince cds....

1.0 out of 5 stars Saturating Motley Crue, June 10, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
I think this album should be entitled "Motley Crue - Live: Entertainment or Death II". It seems as though Vince Neil has sunk to an all time LOW. Essentially, he's sucking Motley Crue dry. Although a very good live album, Vince Neil should consider standing on his own material. Overall, this album is not worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Thin voice of Vince Neil, June 8, 2003
This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
I know that the fan of the Crue could be desapointing by this album but Vince Neil is a great singer and he prouve it on this album. The songs was little bit slowy and fix on the great voice of Vince. The future on Mötley Crüe was no sure. The only way for the real fan it Vince Neil. It's not better on the Crue but it's a different way. Good Album

1.0 out of 5 stars false advertising!, May 31, 2003

This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
i gave this record an objective listen - this guy is ruining the motley name! this is not a vince neil album; look at the song list...if you want a live motley album, there is one you can buy. this sounds like a bad motley crue tribute band! the musicians on this record cannot hold a candle to the tight act that is the original motley crue. guitar solos are adequate at best, the bassist is weak, and the drumming is decent. i don't know why nikki and the band would put up with this. vince has solo material to draw from...his live release should include the "vince neil" material only, not the crue. with rumoured plans for a motley crue farewell tour in 2004, all this release does is take away from the specialness of next year.

3.0 out of 5 stars Is any crew better than no crue?, May 31, 2003

This review is from: Live at the Whisky: One Night Only (Audio CD)
Having only purchased this album 24 hours ago and only hearing it once, I have to say that it's not bad but it's not great.
Vince Neil is only one fourth of what makes Motley Crue the greatest rock and roll band in the world and this album makes that perfectly clear.

11 of the albums 12 tracks are Motley Crue songs with only 1 track being lifted from Vince's first solo album.
While it is true that Vince has been a huge part of Motley's success, as a solo act this has not been the case, his own solo efforts have failed.
Thus he is really cashing in on Motley Crues reputation with a cover band.
He has been quoted as saying that live recordings of his own songs have been 'lost'.
I doubt this is the case.
Still the players on this record or good and of course the songs are great, it just would have been nice to hear Vince stand on his own merrits.

Hardcore fans will enjoy this as long as they take it for what it is a Motley Crue covers albim.

Buy Entertainment Or Death first.
