GREAT EP! WHY AREN'T THESE GUYS HUGE?!?,
By Music Lover (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

After reading a review in The Lefsetz Letter where it called this version of "Hey Joe" the best since Hendrix, I went to the band's website [...]to see if they had any music to listen to. Fortunately, they had lots of music to download including all six songs from the EP. Not only was their slow burning version of "Hey Joe" great, but the five other songs from the EP were just as good or better.
Turns out Gabe Dixon is only in his mid-20's and has already played keyboards for Paul McCartney (yes, that Paul McCartney) on his "Driving Rain" album and at the post-9/11 "Concert For New York" and has most recently been out on the road playing piano for seminal 70's country-rock act Loggins & Messina. It's no wonder. Dixon and his band craft timeless songs. "Ever After You" sounds like it could be straight off Elton John's "11/17/70" album, "All Will Be Well" has the feel of an uptempo "That's Just The Way It Is" crossed with "City Of New Orleans," and "Five More Hours" is just classic storytelling backed by a propulsive piano - but throughout, Dixon's voice & piano playing make each song uniquely his own. If you are reading this review, someone has probably already tipped you off to this band. If so, thank them - this band and EP are great. Buy it now!

Well, GD!,

This is heady music with heart. Gabe Dixon makes Gavin DeGraw look and sound like a Backstreet Boy. He's got soul and raw, gritty, beautiful talent. You'll have to continue to remind yourself that this is a live recording. Thank you, Gabe, for doing what you do... how you do it. Bravo.

I heard the song "All is Well" in the commercials for 'Conviction' on NBC and didn't rest until I found it. The music is very engaging and listening to the whole CD is time well spent. It is live so that detracts - just a little. Has a similar sound to Bruce Hornsby of whom I'm a great fan. Nice little CD.
