5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT EP! WHY AREN'T THESE GUYS HUGE?!?, August 9, 2005

After reading a review in The Lefsetz Letter where it called this version of "Hey Joe" the best since Hendrix, I went to the band's website [...]to see if they had any music to listen to. Fortunately, they had lots of music to download including all six songs from the EP. Not only was their slow burning version of "Hey Joe" great, but the five other songs from the EP were just as good or better.

Turns out Gabe Dixon is only in his mid-20's and has already played keyboards for Paul McCartney (yes, that Paul McCartney) on his "Driving Rain" album and at the post-9/11 "Concert For New York" and has most recently been out on the road playing piano for seminal 70's country-rock act Loggins & Messina. It's no wonder. Dixon and his band craft timeless songs.

"Ever After You" sounds like it could be straight off Elton John's "11/17/70" album, "All Will Be Well" has the feel of an uptempo "That's Just The Way It Is" crossed with "City Of New Orleans," and "Five More Hours" is just classic storytelling backed by a propulsive piano - but throughout, Dixon's voice & piano playing make each song uniquely his own.

If you are reading this review, someone has probably already tipped you off to this band. If so, thank them - this band and EP are great. Buy it now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well, GD!, August 9, 2005

This is heady music with heart. Gabe Dixon makes Gavin DeGraw look and sound like a Backstreet Boy. He's got soul and raw, gritty, beautiful talent. You'll have to continue to remind yourself that this is a live recording. Thank you, Gabe, for doing what you do... how you do it. Bravo.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dixon didn't disappoint., March 21, 2006
This review is from: Live at the World Cafe (Audio CD)
I heard the song "All is Well" in the commercials for 'Conviction' on NBC and didn't rest until I found it. The music is very engaging and listening to the whole CD is time well spent. It is live so that detracts - just a little. Has a similar sound to Bruce Hornsby of whom I'm a great fan. Nice little CD.

I saw Gabe Dixon play with Dave Barnes and Matt Wertz about a year ago, and he was fabulous! This guy is a super talented musician, and when you put him with his bandmates, they are wonderful. The song "All Will Be Well" is the reason I bought this album because I fell in love with it when he played it at the concert, but I love "Five More Hours" and "Ever After You" as well. If you get this cd, you won't be disappointed!!!!!!

I found this one through Pandora.com. The song "Ever After You" is amazing. Definitely hooky enough to be a top hit like "Love Song" or "Bubbly". The trio has a full sound, especially for a live recording! Gabe Dixon was wonderful lyrical sense as well as appropriate piano (or electric piano) lines that fit well with the melodies. Highly recommended to fans of Ben Folds or Steeley Dan. I listen to the CD in the car and my 7 year old sings along! Kudos Gabe Dixon!

Awesome! Gabe's style reminds me of both Paul McCartney and Bruce Hornsby. Easy listening and the music is exceptional.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gabe Dixon is crazily talented, April 10, 2006
This review is from: Live at the World Cafe (Audio CD)
I saw Gabe Dixon in concert and he is phenomenal. He is one of the best piano players I've heard since Billy Joel. Gabe actually played for Paul McCartney in concert, so you know he has to be good. The music is relaxing, easy to listen to and very easy to appreciate.
