Biography

Belinda Carlisle is a founding member of 80's all-girl new wave/surf rock band The Go-Go's. The first all-female band who wrote their own songs and played their own instruments, to have a No.1 album on the Billboard charts. Their seminal debut album Beauty and the Beat (1981), would eventually reach No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart and stay there for six weeks. It was also included on Rolling… Read more in Amazon's Belinda Carlisle Store

Editorial Reviews

"Live Your Life Be Free" is a song written by Rick Nowels and Ellen Shipley, produced by Nowels for Belinda Carlisle's fourth album Live Your Life Be Free (1991). The single reached the Top 20 in Australia, the UK, and Italy. The song was also an airplay hit in the UK, reaching a peak of #5, and also charted high on the singles chart, reaching its peak at #12. The album version features a 10-second intro sample of natural sounds (such as birds, crickets, etc.), which is omitted from the single version, but this is the only difference between the two. "Live Your Life Be Free" not only was the title track of Carlisle 1991 album, but also opened it, being its first track, while the single's B side, "Loneliness Game", closed it, being its eleventh and last song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Underappreciated, yet again!!, August 18, 2003

Once again, Belinda did not get the recognition she deserved with this album. I believe MCA records was to blame for that. She obviously was not as promoted as other artists. Too bad, this album is flawless. Her voice is just spectacular. The only single released here (the US) was "Do You Feel Like I Feel?", and it was all but ignored by radio. The song only managed to reach #75 on billboards top 100 chart. Overseas (where they appreciate better music), the album did very well, as did the song. Other hit singles released off of this album were: Live Your Life Be Free, Half The World, I Plead Insanity, Little Black Book.
All great songs, but the one's to check out on this album, are: You Came Out Of Nowhere, You're Nothing Without Me, Love Revolution. Definitely worth your time and money.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Belinda of all, February 19, 2004

I know having written this in 2004 it seems unfair to call this the best Belinda of all, but that is just what it is. She brought a maturity and an adult feel to the songs that she lacked with her first 3 solo albums. All the songs here contain what i call the Belinda Carlisle Chorus: The backup singers that explode on the chorus of the songs. I Plead Insanity is by far the best song that Belinda has ever done. Its catchy..has the vocals..and the dance feel behind it, and I am sure if it had been released that this album would have gone MUCH farther than it did. If you like Belinda you will LOVE this album, if you can find it now.

5.0 out of 5 stars Belinda living and free!, September 8, 2003

This is an incredible album. "Do You Feel Like I Feel?" is one the best pop songs I have ever encountered. The album is wonderful. This should have been a huge hit in America and if it had received any airplay it would have charted. Other gems are "Live Your Life Be Free," "I Plead Insanity," "You Came Out of Nowhere," "Your'e Nothing Without Me."
