5.0 out of 5 stars Just one more reason to love Dolly...
First of all, I'm NOT a Country Music fan, but I can't help but love Dolly Parton. You'll hear why if you buy this 2-disc set.

Dolly is not only a great singer and performer, but a master lyricist and storyteller. Her incredible commentary between songs explains her thoughts and you really get a feel of why she wrote that song. Her simple grace is amazing...

3.0 out of 5 stars I love Dolly, but not this CD
First of all, Dolly's wonderlful, a criminally underrated songwriter. I was so excited to see she had a live CD, but when i listened it just didn't do it for me. i think the main reason was I couldn't help comparing it to her 1994 live CD, Heartsongs. Now that is the best live CD I have ever heard and possibly my favourite Dolly CD. I was hoping for a sequel to...

Her simple grace is amazing. She loves to entertain and that shows loud and clear in this set. When she talks about her childhood, her family and her home on the foot of the Smokey Mountains, she really shows why she is an icon.

I did shed of couple of unexpected tears while this was playing. "My Tennessee Mountain Home", "Smokey Mountain Memories" and "Coat of Many Colors" are killers. They draw such emotion and with a lyric like "..so we hitched our station wagon to a star", it's a wonder there was a dry eye in the house.

I'm so proud to own this collection. Buy it and I think you'll see why.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's almost like being there..., November 28, 2004
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
I always wonder how good any live album actually will be. I assumed Dolly would deliver, but you just don't know for sure. This live album is fun to listen to...almost more for what she says in between the songs than the actual songs themselves. I did say "almost"--the song material is exceptional and, for the most part, from her bluegrass trilogy, "The Grass is Blue," "Little Sparrow" and "Halos and Horns." Of course, her standards are included as well, so you get a little of the old Dolly and the new and improved Dolly, too. This cd is bluegrass heavy, and with that mountain voice, I could listen to Dolly sing it all day long. I started listening in '78, but her work in the last 5 years is some of her finest and my favorite. She is brilliant as a bluegrass musician. Dolly and bluegrass go together like biscuits and gravy. My favorite cut is #4 "Mountain Angel." The song is great, but the banter at the end is even better. With all the jokes and storytelling and her heartfelt sincerity, it's almost just like being there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Live Recording of Dolly's Last Few Years!, July 8, 2005
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
This album is a perfect example of what you will hear at a Dolly concert. None of Dolly's interaction with the audience has been removed for the discs, so you hear her talking in between songs! If you like this CD, there is also a companion DVD so you can enjoy watching the concert as well! Buy this release, I am sure you will enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two doors down?, January 31, 2006
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
This LP is a rare gem among the country genre. Parton's voice is angelic as is her delivery of these great tunes. Given that Parton has been established for decades, the fact that she composes these gloriously melodic songs is enough to garner this LP 5 stars. As a rule, the LIVE recordings leave so much to be desired in the quality department: Not here. Very impressive music and sound. Parton's voice is NOT over powered in these selections. Parton and all the musicians on this LP are to be thanked for a job well done. Seems so effortless, I'm certain it is not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Dolly CD, December 30, 2004

This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
I did see Dolly on on Hello Dolly tour when she came to Detroit in October. It was the best concert I have ever been to (and this includes Cher). Dolly has such a beautiful voice and she tells such great stories...both of which come through very well on this CD. I bought the CD right after the concert and have listened to it many times since. Anyone who loves music of any kind should have this CD in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Live set!, November 10, 2004
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
This is Dolly's newest Live album, taken from her Halos and Horns tour in 2002. I only hope they do another live cd for her current tour, Hello I'm Dolly. This is a nice intimate set where Dolly sings mostly her new material, with a few older hits thrown in for good measure. The set is bluegrass heavy, drawing from her past three albums mostly. What makes this enjoyable is not only the music, but the time she takes to talk and interact with the audience. Highlights include "After The Goldrush", "I Will Always Love You", "Mountain Angel", "The Grass Is Blue", "Halos and Horns" and many others. A true testament to the excellent entertainer she is.

5.0 out of 5 stars I will always love Dolly, October 16, 2004

I recently Watched "Live and Well" on Direct TV and have since purchased it on CD. Dolly is at the top of her game in this live performance. Surrounded by incredible musicians, Dolly's voice is so clear it's hard to believe she isn't recorded in the studio. I started listening to Dolly Parton in 1975. In her last three blue-grass CD's she has reached new heights, this concert highlights the wave that she is riding. This is a must see and hear collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A phenomenal, versatile, BEAUTIFUL performance!, October 10, 2004
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
I've always loved Dolly's music, but I never realized how versatile and phenomenal of a performer she is until I caught the concert that this 2-disc set is based on. During the concert, she plays over 7 instruments, covers a range of songs from her bluegrass mountain roots to a beautifully uplifting version of "Stairway to Heaven," and gets in some good banter with the audience while she's at it. She even manages to work the phrase "Drag Queen" into one of her songs...how can you beat that!

I could honestly listen to this album for days at a time. I highly recommend it!

AND I LOVE YOU DOLLY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A+ For LIVE AND WELL, November 5, 2005

WOW! When I Found Out That Dolly Was Comming out with another Live CD I was Kinda worried because of her age (60 years) It would sound bad or not as good as her two other live CD's BUT I WAS SO WRONG! This CD is great And dollys version of AFTER THE GOLDRUSH is spectacular better than her version on 1996 TREASURES
She Also adds alot of Humor in between songs (Some of it almost made laugh my head off!). I even found out on the CD that she was thinking of calling "HALOS AND HORNS" Who let the Hogs out!

ALBUM STANDOUTS: Mountain Angel, Shine, Rocky Top, Smokey Mountain Memories, After The Goldrush, Jolene, I Will Always Love You.

THIS CD IS WORTH THE MONEY! SO BUY IT! BEFORE IT DISAPPEARS INTO THE ABYSS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great live set!, September 15, 2004
This review is from: Live & Well (Audio CD)
This is a concert recorded live at Dollywood in December 2002, when she was promoting her HALOS AND HORNS album. It was her first tour (although short) in over 10 years. This is a must have for Dolly's fans. She sings a lot of material from her latest albums, THE GRASS IS BLUE, LITTLE SPARROW and HALOS AND HORNS. She also sings a lot of old favorites. The music is great, but so is Dolly, who takes a lot of time during the concert to joke around and talk with the crowd. This is the ultimate collection really for Dolly, because it gives you the full package of who she is as a performer. Highly reccomended!
