4.0 out of 5 stars nice to have
I've been a Lloyd Cole fan since his eighties days of (britpop) glory with the Commotions, so I was really happy to get my hands on this album.
Lloyd Cole sounds as good live as he does in the studio, and although the album contains double versions of some songs, they variate slightly and the album is not boring or overbearing (thou 19 tracks is rather much)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sort of great but a mess ! (see star breakdown below)
OK, so I'm a Lloyd Cole fan and most all of these songs are from his excellent first two albums with the Commotions - in that you can't go wrong.

However, some of these songs are live in front of a crowd and some are 'live' in a studio with no audience at all and it makes for a bit of an odd mix. Added to that is the repetition of several songs and this...

I have a few of his other albums (mainstream, rattlesnakes, singles, antidepressant), and this one is my favorite of all.
If you are not familiar with Lloyd Cole, luckily for you Amazon always lets you listen to samples of music - nonetheless, should you have been born in the late sixties / early seventies, chances are you will like the sound, as it is the sound we grew up on.

Some of the performances are really good, and it's fun having some different takes, but eventually I ended up buying Live at the BBC, Vol. 2 as well and putting contents from the three CD's together to cut myself a real live set which amounts to about one CD. I think that the producers or marketers were supposed to do that, not put out this jumble.
So music = ***** format = ** average about three stars
