5.0 out of 5 stars Torchbearer for "Down Home Blues", January 27, 2004
By
This review is from: Live at Babe & Ricky's Inn (Audio CD)
Live at Babe and Ricky's Inn is the debut release from multi-talented singer/guitarist, Zac Harmon. Live at Babe and Ricky's Inn showcases Mississippi Blues at its best and introduces the forty-something year-old Harmon as a true torchbearer for keeping "down home blues" alive.

Zac Harmon has been expressing an unbiased love for music for well over twenty years. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, he is a disciple of the Farish Street blues sound. Of course, Farish Street is universally recognized as the home of many great blues legends, including the late, great Elmore James.

Harmon's early years included stints as a guitarist for Z.Z. Hill, McKinley Mitchell, Dorothy Moore and Sam Myers. Moving to Los Angeles in 1980 to pursue a career in music, he worked as a studio musician and began to make a name for himself as a writer/producer, crafting songs for such varied notables as Karen White, Freddie Jackson, Evelyn "Champagne" King, The Whispers, Cherrelle, K.C. & JoJo, The Mississippi Mass Children's Choir, Brian Wilson, Rhonda Clark, Alexander O'Neal andThe O'Jays.

Later, while composing songs for a movie score and performing those songs in the studio, Harmon decided to pursue his longtime dream of recording his first blues project. The result is an electrifying testimonial to the blues, featuring eight totally original songs that truly embody the Mississippi Blues sound.

Capturing the souls and minds of his audiences with such favorites as "Forty Days", "Full-figured Woman" and "Stormin' in Mississippi", this son of the South is glad to finally celebrate his musical homecoming. It's been a long time coming, but a change has definitely come!
