5.0 out of 5 stars Funkin' Incredible!!!
The album is a melting pot of P-Funk originals that go on and on. This is a good thing. The mark of a fine band is when they can play live and just have FUN. Too many people want to hear their songs played exactly how they were done on the studio recordings, and they forget that the band likes to have fun too.

Dennis Chambers is already one of the world's best...

5.0 out of 5 stars Funkin' Incredible!!!, June 14, 2004
This review is from: Live at the Beverly Theatre in Hollywood (Audio CD)
The album is a melting pot of P-Funk originals that go on and on. This is a good thing. The mark of a fine band is when they can play live and just have FUN. Too many people want to hear their songs played exactly how they were done on the studio recordings, and they forget that the band likes to have fun too.

Dennis Chambers is already one of the world's best drummers, and he really let it shine in this recording. The synergy between him and the Bass Player was incredible. They were a fusion of Funk, and the gods were happy that night they played.

It's a FUN album. Clinton does his thing as does Maceo and Skeet. The crowd loved them, and they all had a blast. This makes for an incredible live album.

If you are looking for P-funk to be played exactly how you heard it in a studio recording, DO NOT buy this album. You won't like it. If you are open-minded and have a great sense of fun and love to explore the ins-and-outs of the artist and their music, then by all means buy this album. YOu will go on a journey of Funkadelic Mayhem that will leave you jonesing for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just for the Funk of it!!!, December 6, 2004
This review is from: Live at the Beverly Theatre in Hollywood (Audio CD)
These two disc are by far the most potent Live experiences of punchy funk coming from the P Funk All-Stars that I've ever heard. From start to finish George Clinton and the gang serve up the funkiest and most provocative instrumentation and funk vocals on the planet. All beginning with an introduction by Maceo Parker that allows the crowd to realize just what they are in for as the band warms up to TEAR THE ROOF OFF THE SUCKER.

Dennis Chambers on Drums along with Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis on Bass serve as the foundation to a whole array of Funk that extends through a choir of shredding guitars, sharp horns, and one of a kind P Funk vocals. Dennis Chambers actually makes it sound like there is a percussionist along side him on this album, with his supreme drumming. The sound of this album is pure, raw, and punchy funk as there is not much out there on the market that can compare with this album. You can actually sense the profound chemistry and freedom that the band has as they work their way through these songs while jamming on the ONE.

Its impossible for me to pick a favorite song on this album. But I will say Cosmic Slop is the best I've heard outside of the album original. And Michael Hampton's solo on (Not Just)Knee Deep is super long and emotional as George instructs the band to "Keep going" just as it was coming to an end. Maggat Brain is spiritual in it's own way as you have to hear it to really grasp what I mean.

Thus, we can see clearly from this album that this Live experience was one in which the band had as much fun playing as I have listening to it over and over. A definite buy for any one that loves live funky music and profound instrumentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars sizzling fonk, December 15, 2003

One of the best all time recordings of the P-Funk Thang live. Period. Say what you want about this set, the only misstep they made was not to include the entire performance. ALthough the set is edited heavily, the power with which these steller musicians bring from the stage is just downright scary. Set inspired Prince to record Erotic City. With the core P-funk crew in tow, Clinton & Garry Shider lead the All-Stars thru a truly smoldering set along the Atomic Dog Tour of 1983-84. This show is only 1 of a 3 night stand at the Beverly in Spring of '83 I beleive. By that time , the music was beggining to morph back into where it came from, the pre-Parliament psychedelicised funkrock of the Funkadelic. Where as the mammoth, heavily-theatrical Parliament tours of the late 70s were often loose and at a slower pace, P-Funk All Stars began to pay closer attention to the semantics and tightness of this monster groove. With just incredible players like Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis on bass and the amazing Dennis Chambers on drums, the band is hotter than it has been before or since these glory days.

5.0 out of 5 stars You can't touch this!, July 3, 2000

This review is from: Live at the Beverly Theatre in Hollywood (Audio CD)
This is one of the best live CD's, from the P-Funk All Stars. As a matter of fact, one of the greatest all time live recordings. Features the late great Eddie Hazel on his signature "Maggot Brain". Also a collectors item and it is worth every penny. Not to have this CD is to rob yourself of the "Funk". So go head and cop this funky CD, sit back dig, while they do it to you in your earhole. And they do it so good that you will have a eargasm!

This is one of the funkiest live albums ever recorded. Dennis Chambers (drums) & Skeet Curtis (bass) have truly taken us to another level of funk. This album should delight anyone that is a fan of P-Funk. It will especially delight anyone that likes an unbelievably tight rhythm section.

This CD is a great example of the P-Funk all stars in full awesome funkiness. The most notable track, to me, is the version of Atomic Dogg. Dennis Chambers lays down some insane funk grooves and works the high-hat so fast it'll make your head spin--all while stayin' in the pocket! Go buy this CD today!!!!!
