Not all I was wishing for, but great,

This review is from: Live at Billy Bob's Texas (Audio CD)
For a live CD this album is awesome. John Conlee's rich voice remains all it ever was and all that I remember listening to growing up. Conlee has one of those rare voices that I can never get tired of listening too. The only fault I have with this CD is the fault that I have will all "greatest hits" albums. Some of Conlee's best stuff, including "A Woman's Touch" and "A Little of You" seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. Both are beautiful songs and deserve a place on CD. However as a greatest hits album, Live At Billy Bob's cant be beat. If you like good old "workin man's" country music, pick up John Conlee. You wont be dissapointed.

Hey, THIS is how you do a LIVE COUNTRY CD!!,

John Conlee's awesome style fits this selection of his biggest songs. The Billy Bob's series is among the best group of live recordings, and this one ranks as one of their top sellers for good reason. Few people seem to remember the string of hits this guy enjoyed from the late 70's to late 80's, and Conlee clearly works the crowd. He is backed by fantastic musicians, and this a generous collection with no cut-up, shortened "live" versions of the hits. ALL live CDs, especially country ones, should aspire to this result. Have recently purchased a ton of live recordings in this genre, and MOST have disappointed. Not here. Highly recommend.

With respect to Alison Krauss & Union Station's double live CD, excellent BTW, this has to be the best live CD I've ever owned, rock or country. Great sound, guitar picking and crooning by one of Classic Country's best. This one really has it all from start to finish-JC's strong baritone, COMEDY, tear-jerkers, blues, and of course all the favorites. If you're a classic country fan, get it. If you're not, forget Toby Keith,Garth Brooks, and all those other clowns. THIS IS REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!

John Conlee's "Live Vocal Presence",

"John Conlee-Live At Billy Bob's" is an experience of pure magic to listen to. There are 18 tracks of what could be called "John Conlee's Greatest Hits" perfprmed "live". But don't think these are just throw-away performances . . . John sings each song as perfectly as or even better than his studio recordings of these songs.
There is not a single track that you will be inclinded to skip over or program out . . . the magic of John's vocals and his "Conlee-isms" of intonation are just mood captivating in each and every track of this album. The "biggies"are here like his classic "Rose Colored Glasses" . . . Common Man" . . . "Old School" . . . "Backside Of Thirty". But my all time favorit John Conlee song is also here: "Miss Emily's Picture". This is country music at its best . . . and even more it is "balladeering" at its best. Each song paints a poem picture and tells a story . . . a story in melody. Unlike so much of today's "country" and "pop music" there ARE lyrics and melodies here - melodies you can recognize and sing along to and hum to yourself later again and again. This is what music was intended to be . . . and John Conlee captured it all "live" at Billy Bob's! . . . And you can experience his magic and vocal presence with this cd. Thank you John Conlee for sharing your talent with us and delivering these songs in a style that will capture the minds and hearts of anyone who listens to them . . . we will be singing them for a long long time. :)

Why did it take me so long to start listening to John Conlee? This album is simply great, especially for anyone looking to rediscover the songs that define true country music. The unmistakable baritone voice of Conlee is his legacy. All of his great ones are on this album and the excitment of a live crowd in background adds to the the overall enjoyment of the the cd. I've known these songs for years because my dad is a big fan and I remember hearing them as a child, only I was too young to appreciate the trueness that rings through in his songs; luckily I found Live at Billy Bob's!

Move Over Garth; Conlee Is Back!,
By William J. Macek (Texas) - See all my reviews

John Conlee is back and in a big way. Live at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth Texas isn't just an album of his greatest hits...it's an experience. If you never been to a Conlee concert...Your missing out. I have been to Garth's concerts but Conlee really takes the audience and hypnotizes them. No fancy lights or guitar bashing here...just strong clear vocals. Johns unique voice seems unchanged since his hey day in the late 70's early 80's. This cd is for you. Go buy it and enjoy. I Guarantee you'll love it!
