Great Underrated Show,
By Turd Ferguson (Mundelein, Illinois United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
Ozzy's old, give him some credit. And by the way Suicide Solution is on the DVD it's just not on the cd cuz it ends up being like twenty minutes long. Anyway
1.I Don't Know-Always excellent opener played exceptionally well. 2.That I Never Had-New song that really grows on you. All around well played song. 3.Believer-The singular song off of Diary of a Madman. Cool song. Not up to par though. One of the downsides of this show. 4.Junkie-An anthemic anti drug song that catches you at first listen and never lets go. 5.Mr. Crowley-The classic itself. Always loved this whole song and its very well displayed here especially the intro Keyboard solo and Zakk's solos. 6.Gets Me Through-A new classic. Probably the best song off of Down To Earth. Really catchy and generally a great song. 7.Suicide Solution-DVD ONLY-great song especially liek zakk's solo which includes part of eddie van halens eruption and the star spangled banner. 8.No More Tears-For some reason I don't like this version. Maybe it's just the way Robert Trujillo(the bassist) plays the main riff. Just sounds a bit off. 9.I Dont' Want To Change The World-Great song off of no more tears. 10.Road To Nowhere-The only truly beautiful song Ozzy ever wrote. Excellent guitar work by Zakk. Watching it on the DVD makes this man cry. 11.Crazy Train-excellent extended live version of this instant classic. ENCORES: 12.Mama I'm Coming Home-Good version of the classic. Check out Zakk's double neck SG on the DVD 13.Bark At The Moon-the only track off of a great album. Well played. Still wish Ozzy wore the werewolf costume he did for the video live. Just think itd be cool. 14.Paranoid-Great version of the Sabbath classic. Overall:A great intro to Ozzy. This cd will creat new fans overnight. All Metal fans should own this great live album.

WTF?,
By
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
Well, I was reading the reviews previous this, and I noticed everyone saying they thought this was a cheap live set meant to exploit the commercial success of the popular MTV hit, The Osbournes. I have no clue where that came from, and I don't see how that might have an affect on Live at Budokan whatsoever. This album is pretty awesome. How can it not, Zakk Wylde's playing the guitar on it (he's pretty much a white Hendrix that came twenty years later). It's pretty cool as a fellow strings musician to listen to anything by Zakk, or anything he participates in; he always has variations for every riff and demonstrates his wonderful mastery of guitar on this album and any other. Ozzy seemed to be rather energetic throughout this album, not like how he sometimes is on Ozzfest. His singing is clear as always, and it's just an all out satisfying album. I Don't Know- Starts off with a weird intro bit that many of Ozzy's concerts begin with. Then, Zakk and Ozzy head it off and perform the classic off Blizzard that any Ozzy fan enjoys. That I Never Had- Not exactly the material I think of when I think about Ozzy, but it was alright live. Rather mediocre, and I have a few songs on mind that would do just fine replacing this one. Believer- A classic in some perspectives. The live version is okay, yet far from a gem on this album. Zakk does his typical overly exceptional guitar work on this album, and it goes quite nicely. My. Crowley- Has a longer keyboard intro, then moves into the well known tune of the monstrous hit. Zakk was really good on this, especially during the solos (some of the most known solos in rock). Awesome track. Gets Me Through- A little better than That I Never Had and Junkie. Still kind of a less enjoyable track when compared to the others, yet it's a good listen. No More Tears- Awesome song, as was the studio version. I rather enjoyed the live version, and I love listening to how Zakk alters the original to show off his skills. This is a must listen. I Don't Want to Change the World- Another Ozzy classic, and the live cut deserves its place on this record. A nice follow up to No More Tears, although the next track isn't quite as pleasing. Road to Nowhere- I've never particularly enjoyed this song myself, and the live version is about the same as the studio. The chorus wasn't exactly what Ozzy's known for, it was rather mediocre in my mind's eye. Crazy Train- I always enjoy this song, despite how it's still overplayed. The live version, though, is possibly the gem of this album. Wonderful guitar (even more so than usual) by Zakk, the modifications he did for it in this concert were great. Zakk had a nice solo on this as well, a more extended one than what Randy would play. Mama, I'm Coming Home- This is the song that when played live gets everyone going. It's not exactly heavy or riff filled, but everyone can enjoy it for its lyrics. It doesn't let down in this recording. Bark at the Moon- This was the first Ozzy song I learned how to play on guitar. It's still awesome to me, I realyl love it, despite how others might say it's not the best of that particular album. Paranoid- Awesome. Zakk does it better than Tony Iommi, I must say. I love this song, no matter if it's Tony or randy who play it, but Zakk did it best. Although probably not the best live Ozzy CD, I'd suggest buying this one. If you don't particularly like Ozzy, or you have been swayed by negative reviews, just buy it for the guitar- that's good enough.

OZZY LIVE,
By Jorge "superjointjore69" (Howell,NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
This is by far the best live album I ever heard form Ozzy Osbourne(better than LIVE + LOUD,Just say Ozzy, and Tribute) (Nothing against Randy Rhoads).Live in Budokan is better than Live + Loud because, Live + Loud is a two discs that some songs are pretty bad form the studio recordeing and when you hear it Live from that album [is not good]. But with this album its 1 disc that has all the hits from Ozzy that you want to hear and it sound great.I'm a big fan of live albums that why I like this album so much. Compared to a person that doesn't like live albums. The whole album is very great when it comes to the music from Zakk Wlyed one of the best guitars of all time. Rob Trujillo a very good,no the best basses that Ozzy ever had. Mike Bordin on the drums that are amazing. Then you have Ozzy Osbourne on vocals that totally rulez. And then you have the fans that will blow your ears away, they scream at the top of there lungs it great. Thats all you need for a great Ozzy Osboune record. Some of the songs sounds better on this live album than the studio version. Like Crazy Train, Mr Crowley, No More Tears, Mama I'm Comming Home, Bark at the Moon. And Paranoid sound so good on this album because of Zakk Wyled solo in the middle of the song. Then there are some of Ozzy's new songs from Down To Earth album (which is a must have for a Ozzy fan). Like Gets Me Through, Junkie, and That I never had are totally better live than the studio version by far. And you have to hear Zakk Wlyed's guitar riffs are incredable they are so off the hook, and the solos that he has off of these songs, they are amazing. He is no Tony Immoi from Black Sabbath, but he can soon be or even better, No Zakk Wyled is ten times better thatn Immoi(no offense)(I love you Tony, but Zakk is better than you sorry). So there you have it. Go out and buy this album you will not regrete it i promise you that. This is Ozzy Osbourne at his best.LIVE!

Yet Another Live Ozzy Album,
By "kingofrock379" (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
Even though this is Ozzy's fifth live recording, don't let that fool you, this one is definately right next to tribute. This recording collects 10 of Ozzy's classic songs as well as 3 from his most recent album Down to Earth. His band for this album is top notch: Zakk Wylde on guitar, Rob Trujillo (Suicidal Tendicies) on bass, and Mike Bordin (Faith No More) on drums. His new band infuses and energizes the old songs making them sound fresh and new again. The album opens with the classic I Don't Know and throughout the set he proceeds to play concert staples such as Mr.Crowley, I Don't Want to Change the World, and No More Tears. The songs from the new album Junkie, That I Never Had, and the single Gets Me Through sound much better on the live album than they do on the studio recording. Ozzy also performs two of his biggest ballads, Mama I'm Coming Home and Road to Nowhere, the latter is one of the shining moments on the album. If you couldn't guess he also performs his signature song Crazy Train, which sounds better than ever. He then finishes the cd/show off with Bark at the Moon going into the Sabbath classic Paranoid. This is definately worth buying if you're a fan of Ozzy or live music, my only complaint with it is that the albums Ultimate Sin, Ozzmosis, and No Rest for the Wicked are completely ignored, but other than that it's perfect.

Zakk Wylde carries Ozzy...,
By "The Woj" (Downers Grove, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
Without Zakk this disc would only be worthy of a 2 star review. His guitar rips and to quote Ozzy himself "Zakk plays louder than Satan". However..... Anyone who has seen the Osbourne's knows Ozzy is well past his prime. Most of the vocals on the disc sound like they were recorded in Ozzy's bedroom first thing in the morning. He drones on and on in a low monotone for most of the songs. His voice carries none of the power it used to. Anyone who listens to this disc and denies it has a brain that's nearly as fried as Ozzy's. But [...], even Ozzy at 50% is better than any of the metal wanna-bees, Vince Neil's and David Coverdale's of the world. Look for a used copy of Speak Of The Devil if you really want to hear some great live Ozzy. ps stay away from the new 2002 remasters of "Blizzard" & "Diary" with new bass and drum tracks. They are blasphemous and brutally bad. Randy RIP!!

OZZY!!!!!!!!!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Live at Budokan (Clean) (Audio CD)
If I said I had a favorite album, it is LIVE AT THE BUDOKAN. I saw the DVD at my dad's and I would reccomend this over any ozzy album, especially live. Some classic songs are CRAZY TRAIN, MR CROWLEY, and BARK AT THE MOON. Zakk Wylde also plays a super guitar solo. 2 thumbs up to LIVE AT THE BUDOKAN!!!!!!!!!

Ozzy Live!!,

This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
Yet another live album by the one and only OZZY!! The production is great, as Ozzy's vocals come through very well, as do Zakk Wylde's mind-blowing guitar-playing. You can really feel the energy on this disc, and you can't help but smile and bang your head when Ozzy blasts into "Crazy Train"! Definitely a great album if your looking to get into Ozzy, or if you're a diehard Ozzy fan already!! This shows that at 53, the reigning godfather of metal is still going strong!

Somewhat decent, but the DVD is better,
By Ozymandias451 (New Hampshire, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live At Budokan (Audio CD)
(Note: Rating for this is 2 and 1/2 stars, not 2)OK, I beleive this CD was put out mainly to make some money on the side from the reality show, and just to show people that Ozzy Osbourne makes music as well as curse and shake, which a number of people who watched The Osbournes didn't seem to realize. This album does have a few saving graces, however. I Don't Know is the best rendition Ozzy and his band do of any of Ozzy's Randy Rhoads-era material on the CD. However, I would recommend the DVD as well as this CD mainly because the DVD contains a performance of Suicide Solution that is not featured on the CD and is a better rendition of one of his classics than anything on the CD; it actually sounds almost like Ozzy performing it with Randy Rhoads back in the early 80s. Even though neither Zakk Wylde nor any guitarist could ever match the talents of the late great Randy Rhoads, Zakk gives us a surprisingly decent version of Suicide Solution that is even better than his version on Live & Loud. To sum up the songs on the CD however, the only thing even somewhat good about this version of Paranoid is Ozzy's voice, I Don't Know is genreally alright, it's a travesty the way Zakk Wylde butchers Crazy Train, Beleiver, Junkie, That I Never Had, and Gets Me Through are good, Mr. Crowley leaves a lot to be desired except for John Sinclair's keyboard playing, which is top-notch, I Don't Want to Change the World, Mama I'm Comin' Home and Road to Nowhere also could have been better, No More Tears what somewhat OK, and the rhythm section on Bark at the Moon were good as they are on most of the songs here, though Zakk's guitar and Ozzy's voice aren't up to par with them on this one. So, my final verdict for this CD is that this is for real Ozzy fans only, casual fans will probably get turned off to Ozzy by this, which is too bad 'cause Ozzy has made some of the best hard rock/metal recordings ever. If you do buy this CD, I'd strongly recommend the DVD in addition to it as the version of Suicide Solution on the DVD is what makes the show. |
