Jackie Wilson Live was no joke.now while some of His Studio Material was so-so as time went on to truly appreciate this Legend you gotta Hear Him Live.Live He was was unstoppable.His Voice took a whole different gear&went into full overdrive.and the range of the Man was Amazing.He has Influenced so many Artists.

Jackie Wilson's "Live at the Copa" CD simply blew my mind. I have never heard him in such a state. "Love for Sale," "Body and Soul", "This is My Beloved," and most especially "I Apologize" take Jackie Wilson to another level. I've always loved his music but those four songs gave me new respect for his artistic abilities.

For those of you not privileged enough to have seen the man Elvis imitated and revered (check out the King's own words on the Million Dollar Quartet CD about the fellow singing "Don't Be Cruel" in Vegas-he is referring to Jackie, as the lead singer of Billy Ward's Dominoes) and thought was the greatest singer, take a listen. As a kid, I saw Jackie a dozen or so times and still get goose bumps thinking about his riveting live performances. Unfortunately, this is his only live album-at least that I am aware of. Remember, this performance is at one of the premier white establishments of its day - the famed Copacabana. In Sam Cooke's initial performance there, he bombed because he brought the wrong act. He could have taken a page from Jackie, who mixed his soul material with music the Copa crowd liked. It's called audience adaptation. And he pulls it off beautifully. Most performers desperately try to live up to the way they sound on their CD's. Jackie's live performances were always better because his talent was too immense to be properly displayed in this manner. His voice could crack glasses, his moves defied gravity and his charisma was legendary. So while you listen to this gem, keep in mind the audience he is performing in front of. It will explain his banter between songs. Pay especially close attention to his abbreviated version of "Danny Boy," my all-time favorite song, and "the transcendent "To Be Loved." No one ever did it better than "Mr. Excitement."
