5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had known about these guys years ago!, June 22, 2001

This review is from: Live at the Dock St Theatre (Audio CD)
This is one of the Blue Dogs' earlier works, and is GREAT! Mostly acoustic with some good covers (Jerry Garcia's "Brown Eyed Women," Lyle Lovett's "I've Been to Memphis," Adam Duritz's "Rain King," a few traditional bluegrass songs and more). But to me, the best song on the CD was the Blue Dogs original "Simple Complication" -- what a terrific song! The Blue Dogs are an eclectic mix of bluegrass, Grateful Dead, acoustic rock and everything else good about music. I discovered these guys about two months ago and am completely hooked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bluedogs Put New Twist on Bluegrass, June 23, 2000

Buying this CD was some of the best money I ever spent. The Blue Dogs, a group of fellows who met at college, bring a fresh breath of air to bluegrass music in a way which connects with the GenXers and those that follow. Their selections are eclectic spanning blugrass standards from Bill Monroe, covers of Greatful Dead tunes and some of their own cleverly written material. They even throw in a Counting Crows cover on this album that makes you realize how talented these guys actually are. Also, the whole show is recorded live as the name of the album suggests with different participants joining in and playing instruments such as the mandolin which get better every time you listen to them. You can almost feel the energy of the crowd in the recording making you want to see the band live. If you are looking for something different that will get your friends asking "hey who are these guys", buy this disk.
