I really liked all of tommy castro`s studio cd but this did not get it for me,because i like the blues side of him more. There is just to much soul in this cd.IF YOU WANT TO HEAR CASTRO AT HIS BEST GET CAN`T KEEP A GOOD MAN DOWN.This cd does have its moments with a great version of a classic,my time after awhile.

you can't separate the power of blues and the spirit of soul...and trust me, every lick of tommy's guitar and every shriek or whisper of his raspy soulful voice, will knock you off your feet, and if your booty ain't shaking by the end of the first track, i suggest you have cpr administered immeaditely...buy this cd...you wont regret it one second...better yet see the band live..you will walk away a firm believer...that they are the real deal

I had never had heard of Tommy before I picked this album up on a whim a couple of months back. Wow! This guy is what the blues are all about. I listen to a lot of different artists and this is one guy I can truly say has to be heard live...his studio stuff is good, but it lacks the power he displays live. Get this one...you'll not regret it!

Kickin' Feel Good Boogie-Woogie Blues,

Tommy Castro rocks. He sings like Delbert & plays guitar like Buddy & Stevie. If you listen to this in you car, be careful to watch your odometer because the uptempo boogie-woogie blues will have you speeding in no time.

Nice Groove, but lets not go overboard!,

This is my first Tommy CD. I liked the built in interview on the CD, and he seems nice. His band has a nice groove, and tunes are good. He's not a guitar God, and his voice is average. His band is good. In my book this CD is that. It's good. It's not excellent. I didn't call anyone telling them they "Had to hear this CD". I thought his version of "Sex Machine" didn't really add much from the original James Brown version (another reviewer mentioned it). Tommy sounds like he's having fun, and it comes through on the CD. It's just not "Oh my God!" awesome, and if you're looking for the next Stevie Ray, keep lookin.

Living in the bay area, I heard of Tommy Castro but never really listened to his music. This is my first cd of his and I love it. Straight ahead blues/rock with a tight band and good material. I plan to check out some of this other recordings.

Good at times, not great...,

I really liked his last CD and was looking forward to a "live" version of some of his hits (since I really prefer live music recordings). This CD has its moments, but overall was pretty average. The slow tunes are too long (6+ mins.). And I can't believe he left off "My kind of Woman," one of the best songs on his last CD which would really rock in a live version. "Sex Machine" is too long with a bad/boring sax solo. I'll listen to this a lot probably, but I'm somewhat disappointed in overall content.

I like my rock 'n' roll kickin',
This review is from: Live at the Fillmore (Audio CD)
Muddy Waters said "another mule been kickin' in your stall" (Long Distance Call).
It's all about the sexual tension between men and women - the life blood of rock 'n' roll. This CD pulls and yanks that tension to amazing places with a heavy emphasis on the interrelationship of blues and R&B. As I'm writing I'm on my second listening to this CD and thinking, if it weren't for rock'n'roll and hockey, why are we here? I cannot fathom why some reviewers have problems with this CD. Maybe they just don't get that the blues and R&B are innseparable.

Wow. I picked this album up because he looked interesting. Tight band. Funky at times. Rockin' at times. I love it. He sounds like Llyod Jones and the band is really together. Hard to pick the best tunes when they are all good. If I had to, listen to Lucky in Love and Right as Rain. If it's possible to wear out a CD, this is the one you'll wear out.
