Editorial Reviews

From the late '40s to the early '60s, this treasured West Coast jazz ensemble regularly lit up the California club that gave them their name. This late-'50s recording takes you back to those glorious days as they throw down These Foolish Things; Angel Eyes; Witch Doctor; Topsy; Gal in Calico; Royal Garden Blues , and more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hindsight Records releases a stunning CD January 4, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This CD by Howard Rumsey's Lighthouse All-Stars is a welcome addition for Rumsey collectors. Most, if not all, of the songs have never before been issued on CD. It is also possible that the songs were never released on LP during the 50's when the music was recorded. The sound quality is excellent and all songs are in true stereo. Don't hesitate buying this CD- you will not regret it!

This recording represents the Lighthouse All Stars at their peak recorded live at the Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach in the late 50s. To my ears the musicians are Bob Cooper on tenor, Frank Rosolino on trombone, Sonny Clark and/or Victor Feldman on piano, Rumsey on bass and Stan Levey on drums. The album is well recorded and may have been recorded by Wally Heider. Most of the tunes are from the All Stars repertoire but these are fresh versions not previously available. This is an excellent addition to any collection of jazz on the west coast during it's heyday.
