The Best Sounds Album You Can Find,
By Jeffrey Pierce (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live at the Lighthouse (Audio CD)
this cd is superb. it is right in the transision of the sounds move from their early soul/jazz to their later funky sounds. the dynamics are superior, moving from calm to explosive all the time, especialy on "summertime". new drummer donald baily fits in perfectly and is as good or better than he was on any jimmy smith recording. 5 of the tracks we not recorded live and have organ dubbed over. i love those tracks, but may not be for all tastes. "why am i treated so bad" is as funky as they get, where "june night" is as soulfully smooth as they get. neither extremes sound cheezy like a lot of soul/jazz and funk/jazz can. great cd

I own about 8 Three Sounds Blue Notes and this if I had to pick may be my favorite of the lot. What a fantastic group they were!
