This is great piano jazz - tasteful and wonderfully crafted., July 21, 1998

This is great, solo jazz piano. Sir Roland's inventive mind and great technique make each of the tracks fresh and interesting. Liner notes talk about the influence of Tatum and Garner, but Sir Roland has a style all his own - and it's great. This album is a real find!

Amazing!, February 3, 2007
This review is from: Live at Maybeck 32 (Audio CD)
Roland Hanna is one of many jazz musicians who never received his due. However, Concord Jazz has done the world a favor by capturing many little-known pianists in its Maybeck Solo Series, and this is my favorite of the series, so far.
Hanna is obviously influenced by many things, as alluded to by a previous reviewer, but what a mixture of influences! Not only Errol Garner (on Love Walked In), but Claude Debussy as well. (Just listen to his recording of "Lush Life".)
Love Walked In, This Must Be Love and They Can't Take That Away From Me all swing. Hanna creates a completely seperate melodic introduction to the first of these and somehow ties it all together.
He plays with great energy, emotion, and feel. This is one of the best solo piano albums that I have ever heard.
