Editorial Reviews

Yes is one of the most innovative and successful rock bands of all time, with a career that now spans five decades. In 2003 the band made their first appearance at the Montreux Festival, despite having a long association with the town itself (they recorded there frequently in the seventies). It was a triumphant night and is regarded by both the band members and fans as probably the finest Yes gig ever to be filmed. It has been much in demand and is now finally cleared for release.

4.0 out of 5 stars This Silver Disc's In Regular Rotation May 31, 2011
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
There are very few DVD/Blu-ray concert films that stay in the rotation at my home. My Morning Jacket's "Okonokos", George Harrison's tribute concert, "A Concert for George", and Michael Tilson Thomas' Copland concert. I feel fortunate that this concert was captured at this late stage in the band's career.

Perhaps some arrangements and time signature have been modestly modified to account for the affects of age. Perhaps Jon Anderson can't hit every high note with the extreme volume he could in the 70's. Beyond any sentimental remembrances of seeing the band live back then, I am absolutely not disappointed in the experiential value of this DVD. I've listed to "Awaken" many times over, and it still gives me the same thrill that playing it in the 70's for the first time. They are musically just a great band.

My only negative comments go out to the Director of the video. It starts out with way too many fast cuts endemic to a younger generation of music film makers. Fortunately, this starts to fade as the show goes on. It was as if the camera men and the producer had never heard Yes before, but finally began to understand the band as time passed. A little microphone glitch during "And You and I", but otherwise the sonics were superb. I won't bore you with the makeup of my system, but let's just say it's very good by anyone's standards.

I could take the poor video edits, but I had to drop it down one star due to the almost total absence of Chris Squire during most of the show. As noted in my above comments, I don't think it was until his bass solo that someone woke up at the editing console and said, "Wow, this guy is good. We should edit him into the film more!". Considering his animated style, wonderful bass skills, and vocal backup, it is just bewildering my he's barely show in this film.

I'd look forward to a re-edited version, but don't let that stop you from finding much to enjoy about this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy it! September 22, 2011
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Equipment. Samsung 1080P 3D 58", Denon AVR-5803, Klipsch KSP-300, C6, S6 surrounds, KSW-300 sub, running 3 subwoofers all Klipsch speakers.. It's loud. This DVD Blu-ray picture is stunning. Sound is perfect. Guitars, vocals and drums tight, loud and perfectly balanced. You will not have to play with it. When cranked the vocals are outstanding. They don't get lost. It is as if you are in the front row. Heart of the sunrise is amazing! If you have a monster theater system you are going to play this for your friends, a lot.. The sound is amazing. I mean it is perfectly clear, crystal. The versions of the songs we grew up with are so good. I have to say better than the album versions to some degree.

The set list is as follows:

1-Siberian Khatru 2-Magnification 3-don't kill the whale 4-In the presence of 5-We have heaven 6-South side of the sky 7- And you and I 8-To be over 9-Clap 10-Show Me 11-Rick Wakeman solo medley 12-HEART OF THE SUNRISE (amazing version) 13-Long distance runaround 14-The Fish 15-Awaken 16-I've seen all good people 17-Roundabout

This is a work art!

5.0 out of 5 stars Blu-ray version is far superior. December 3, 2008
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I purchased the Yes Live at Montreux DVD and was impressed. The 5.1 mix was OK, but the 2.0 Stereo mix had better bass response on my audio system. I later got a Play Station 3 and finally got it configured. I acquired a Yes Live at Montreux Blu-ray DVD of this concert. Whoa dude. Even my 13 yr. old nephew was impressed. No comparison. It is like the difference in being there at the show and listening to a bootleg. There are no problems with the Blu-ray audio recording. It is off the chart. I hope they put Yes Symphonic and Live at Tsongas on Blu-ray.

Great performers, great sound, great picture (blue ray)! What more could you want?
Steve, Chris, Rick,& Allen give an excellent show. Would love to see a '70s YES show even near this quality but I can't find one. Lucky to have this.

What else can I say,I love Yes and I love Blu-Ray,so this was a no brainer type of purchase for me,this Blu Ray Disc contains a complete Yes concert Live at The Montreux Jazz Festival in 2003,and the lineup(Jon Anderson,Steve Howe,Alan White,Chris Squire and Rick Wakeman)are in top from here!!! They play a lot of the classic material:And You and I,Heart of the Sunrise,Don't Kill The Whale,I've Seen All Good People,Long Distance Runaround/The Fish, and of course Roundabout, and a many more, over 2 hours baby!!! If you have a Blu Ray player and like Yes than this is a great purchase, but don't worry it's also available on standard DVD too!!! I actually got my Blu-Ray Disc brand new for less than the DVD!!! Two thumbs up!!! A+

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes! - Yes, go ahead and buy it. September 21, 2008
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
I rented the Blu-Ray from netflix three days ago and now I bought one here at Amazon. A great addition to your musical BR collection. The PQ and AQ are excellent. The audio is excellent, crisp, clear and precise. The video is great too, well lit(stage), sharp, clear with no visible compression artifacts or blocking. Colors are vivid but not pushy. It's a pleasure to watch. I still have my ticket stubs from the "In The Round" show at MSG.
Yes, I am that old......errr,
