BUY THIS CD!,

This CD is just awesome. If you've never heard Waterdeep before, you have to check this band out. Kind of a jazzy funk rock deal, two phenomenal vocalists, incredible ivory, fantastically phat bass grooves, and Brandon's just money on the drums. Lyrically, this disc is very solid: uplifting and positive without being cliche. Waterdeep's debut CD on a National label ("Everyone's Beautiful" - Squint Entertainment) is an incredible spin too, but nobody puts it out like they dish it out live. That's what makes this CD so tight -- the energy. Feels like you're there. I can't believe anybody can be this good.

Maybe, seriously now, one of the best live rock albums ever,

Waterdeep Live at the New Earth is simply an *amazing* record. The incredible energy of a small underground club, airtight performances from the band members, masterfully crafted songs, and jaw-dropping improvisational jams. If you like Waterdeep, you must get this album. If you like live music, you really ought to get this album. If you like music at all, you should strongly consider getting this album. Hear for yourself! I believe there are samples at waterdeep.com.

I was first exposed to Waterdeep at a live concert at Trinity Christian College in a burb outside of Chicago. I just tagged along that night, as the agent of Caravan 2:11 - (*Plugin*) .. and didn't even know who we were going to hear. They just blew us away. It was a small intimate set with some 200 people and we sat on the floor like salted bohemians at the feet of the stage.God bless them and may He continue using them, like He does. -Paul V caravan211@hotmail.com

Waterdeep set a standard for gospel rock live at the New Earth. I am fortysomething and grew up in the 60s, 70s and 80s. I hate synthesizers and simulated strings from keyboards. New Earth has none of that. It is a return to extended jams. While I enjoy great guitar jams, Waterdeep extends their tunes with ensemble jams--a band jam if you will--incorporating decent guitar work with organ, bass and drum features.
I worked with junior high school kids at my church a few years back. Four 8th grade guys driving up with me to Wisconsin for a weekend retreat were in a band. They brought their metal music they wanted me to play in my car. We agreed that for every CD of theirs we listened to, they would listen to one of mine. The guys ended up ordering Waterdeep Live at the New Earth on line after getting back home. They loved it. These metal heads were all of a sudden into classic blues rock, which is what Waterdeep does (when their not doing acoustic folk rock that they are also very good at). The guys also enjoyed the blues-southern rock jams of Glenn Kaiser as well. They ended up putting their metal-shred music away. New Earth is one of my absolute favorite CDs--top 10. It will stand the test of time. It's too bad that there will never be radio play for these guys. There too talented for "Contemporary Christian Music" radio. It's also too bad there may never be a Waterdeep album again. The band that recorded this CD live has had changes, and I believe each band member has since gone their separate ways. We'll get solo music from Don Chafer (vocals, guitar) and his wife from time to time--not the rock of Waterdeep, but still very good. Check out the entire Waterdeep catalog. This is a superb band of talented musicians that most listeners of gospel music will never hear or appreciate.

This is simply a phenomenal achievement. A couple of friends from the Kansas City area turned me onto this band; I purchased this CD and it has not left my player for months. There is a top to bottom energy and quality to this CD that just is not matched by many other R&B/jam band CDs I have heard.
The production quality for this live performance is terrific, and that quality allows each of the musicians to shine. I don't think there is a weak link in the bunch. I complain from time to time that even if a band has a great pianist/keyboard player, the mix does not allow you to hear them until their one solo in the middle of their one song. Not so with this production. Each player is front and center on every track. Waterdeep is a wonderful lyrical band. They are often creative and surprising with their rhyme and rhythm, and they are always thoughtful. Certain verses in "Everybody's Guilty" still give me chills. Overall, this CD is an auditory feast. Purchase, turn up the volume, and enjoy!
