5.0 out of 5 stars Pittsburgh's best band beats Joe Grushecky & Houserockers, April 25, 2005
This review is from: Live at Nick's Fat City (Audio CD)
I saw Donnie Iris & the Cruisers live in the '80s, and this 1997 concert is as fantastic as I remember. Donnie can still hit those high screams. Every song brought back great memories and "Ah Leah" was the pinnacle. The super low price was an added bonus. Any Donnie Iris fan would love this CD. These guys, along with Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers, are western Pennsylvania's best rock bands of all time. If you like real old fashioned rock and roll, you must check out Donnie Iris!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best (so good it makes me launch into Henry V)!!!!, November 27, 2007

What can I say, a fantastic live album from a fantastic live band. The only thing better is to catch these guys in person. Donnie still hits these high notes even though he is now in his sixties. My thoughts upon browsing the track list: Tommy's intro on Agnes - awesome (Tommy is awesome throughout this album - humbling for a drummer like me) "It was a warm September night." Do You Compute - Marty's ax chopping on the rhythm, Donnie lets go with the first scream of the album right before the break - and it's perfect! That's The Way Love Oughta Be: Come a little loser, a little bit closer, and kiss me, ah-ah-ah-YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH! Poletown - Mark's accordian is super. Donnie's soliloquy(sp?) on Injured In The Game of Love: "Do you know what I'm talkin about?!" Marty's synth/wine flask/bag pipe whatever-the-hell-that-thing-is-called solo on Minnie the Moocher - smoke your stogie! Love Will Rock You: 'nuff said. Ah Leah with a synthesizer intro and the screams from hell at the end. The Rapper (last time I saw them live they transitioned from The Rapper to Hush to finish the show - awesome again!). We get it. We few, we happy few, we band of Cruiser-loving brothers. For he who listens to Donnie Iris with me today will surely be my brother. Be he ne'er so vile or a Three Doors Down fan, this album will gentle his condition. Just think, a Pittsburgh rocker who inspires me to desecrate Shakespeare. Buy it, listen to it, love it.
