Biography

The Carpenters were the US-born Grammy-winning duo whose string of easy-listening hits in the 70s, including “(They Long To Be) Close To You”, “We've Only Just Begun” and “Goodbye To Love”, put them among the best-selling acts in music.

Brother and sister Richard and Karen Carpenter first tried to launch their musical career in the mid 1960s but it was not until 1969 that they were signed to A&M… Read more in Amazon's Carpenters Store

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Live" Carpenter Album Performed in England, August 20, 2005
This review is from: Live at the Palladium (Audio CD)
This is one of two "LIVE" Carpenter album ever released (for Japan fans) in 1976. It is a concert that was performed at the Palladium in London. The other live album is the 2-disk "Live in Japan" (1974 A&M release).

This is a delightful album and makes me wish I had seen the Carpenters perform live! They sing various long medleys of the songs from their career, with narration between by both Karen and Richard. The set sums up their careers in an entertaining fashion. My favorite track features Richard's Piano Picker followed by a lenghty drum solo by Karen, who was a marvelous drummer! She excels on this number, using several different drum sets, demonstrating her incredible talent.

Yes, it's incredibly expensive, but for Carpenter fans, you will want this album! I suggest E-BAY for a used copy; one might be able to get the album for a better price there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is it real, or is it Memorex?, August 8, 2001

This review is from: Live at the Palladium (Audio CD)
The Carpenters' unique talents are preserved in a live performance that, like "Carpenters: Live in Japan," allows the listener to more clearly understand what made them such popular and spectacular musicians. It has been said that a hallmark of musical giftedness is how similar one's recorded sound is to a live performance. "Live at the Palladium" brings you front row center for a performance by one of the greatest singers who ever lived. Listen to Karen's voice soar on this album! She fills the hall with her unique, flawless vocal presence, reminding us that her mellow "lows" are merely the foundation of a multi-octave range. Framed by the lush orchestrations and wonderful arrangements of Richard, this album truly affords a picture of the group that brought romance back to music. A "must" for any Carpenters fan!
