5.0 out of 5 stars There was No Ice Storm!!
The first reviewer may be a PhD of retardedness. This show was recorded on June 5th. Maybe you're atoning for being an imbecile at a live concert, but it wasn't this one. Please research before you post. This is a pretty good representation of a Bim show. I'd give it a 4, but in order to boost it because of that first false review, I'll 5 it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I was at this show
This album was made at the peak of Bim's career, when they were turning in absolutely insendiary performances (they were only better just before Jackie Starr left the band). The reason that this isn't a very good cd is because this wasn't a very good show -- for reasons that were beyond Bim's control. First of all, there was an ice storm that night. As a result hardly...

As a result hardly anyone showed up -- in contrast to a show I saw at the paradise a couple months earlier when there was hardly room to turn around. The band was visibly disappointed and it came accross in their performance. To make matters worse a bunch of people (including myself I'm ashamed to admit) piled onto the stage and started doing sing-a-longs, which forced several of the band members to perform while standing on chairs. Unfortunately Bim had invested a lot of money in bringing the mobile studio down, and they couldn't afford to trash the tapes. So this is what you get: a mediocre recording of a mediocre performance by one of the most incredible ska bands in the history of the genre -- who were then at the zenith of their performing career. Disappointing? To say the least. I for one apologize for my own little role in this fiasco.

I really like Bim Skala Bim a lot, but at the time when they made "Live at the Paradise," they weren't ready for a live album. Their studio albums were good, but the band has improved since then, and at the time they just didn't have enough REALLY good studio albums to make a live album. If they made another live album now, it would be a lot better.
