4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a boot, but way overpriced & should be free, December 22, 2007
This review is from: Live at the Quiet Knight Club (Audio CD)
I always get steamed seeing somebody making money off of a boot that you can easily get for free. If you are making money off of the show, I suggest you pay the Marley estate their share, otherwise share it freely, 'cause it ain't copyrighted.

If you want it for free, just google "Bob Marley Quiet Knight flac".

I suggest that Amazon no longer carry this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE UNDISPUTED KING OF REGGAE MUSIC, August 29, 2005

Totally awesome sound quality in a small club atmosphere . You will hear a laid back but still inspired Bob Marley and his irie band of merrymen jamming . I just recieved this cd and like many of you i was a little leary of ordering this since there are so many poor quality japanese release live albums but fear not my rasta friends this is the real thing . A great set , including rarely performed " talkin blues ", and a great sound quality too . The I Threes along with Al Anderson , Tyrone Downey , Alvin "seeco" Paterson , and the Barrett brothers on bass and drums for a truly remarkable concert . The nice thing too is that the concert is uninterupted with editing so you get to hear Bob talking to the audience between songs and introducing his fellow band members . Don't hesitate because this is probably a limited edition release that won't be around for long . Enjoy it !! ONE LOVE

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Marley live cd available, March 6, 2008

This is simply a great CD. Marley is playing in front of a small crowd who are so into the show that they can be heard giving shouts of joy throughout. Yet not in a way that makes the disc unlistenable. You will hear crowd noise, but it doesn't detract from the energy, which is just white hot on this player. Marley had many moods. One look at the playlist should be enough to let you know that this live album is Marley at his most militant and political. You can almost hear the crowd taking this stuff in. I mean, in 1975 you might hear some black radicals saying things like "I feel like bombing a church, now that I know that the preacher is lying." And in 2008, considering how extreme music has become, that lyric might be tame. But you did NOT hear funk bands or rock bands saying it in 1975.

I would agree that the live versions on this album are slow and funky. The drummer and bassist, carlton and aston "family man" barrett are, in particular just killing it on this record.

Now, I think Live! is a great album (although not as good as this.) I think Babylon by Bus is actually a very weak album, and not even really worth owning. Live at the Roxy, Hollywood, California, May 26, 1976 - The Complete Concert is a very good album, and worth owning.

All three of those albums have much better sound than this one, but this one is his best performance, and the sound deficiencies don't significantly detract from the quality of this album, in my opinion.

I can't really speak to the "bootleg" argument here. I don't know if Marley's estate gets money from this album or not. Their management of his catalog is another issue entirely. But I think we can be confident that this is not bootleg if amazon is listing it.

Buzz Smith is not a collector and does not understand. This is one of the best live CD's out there beyond the commercially released albums. If you're into Bob this is a must have. I have several bootlegs that I've listened to once and filed away - this one is definitely on the play list. When I heard it I was blown away, and I tend to be pretty critical of these high-priced CD's. Worth every penny and then some.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice, March 23, 2007

First off the people that are claiming this recording is great may need their ears checked out. The recording is ok for a bootleg. It is no where near the sound quality of Live at the Roxy, Babylon by Bus, or Live. There is some distortion and this is more than likely from the gains being set too high. That being said it is a nice cd. Natty Dread and Midnight Ravers are rarely heard live and they are welcome on this set. The mood is mellow, very similar to Bob's Roxy recording. The tempo is slower than that of Babylon by Bus or Live.

This is only for the real hardcore Bob fan. If you are looking for your first live Bob cd I would suggest the Live at the Roxy, Babylon by Bus or Live cd's. If you have most of Bob's music, then get this one. One thing to note, the Marley family does not receive royalties from the sale of this cd.
