The Sugar Is Sweet, December 23, 2005

This album is the sister disc to the 'Boogie Chillen' cd that features JLH in a blue dress shirt & hat on a grey cover. 'Boogie Chillen's' 1st half is essentially 'Live @ Sugar Hill - Vol. 1'. This album makes up for what definetly seems to be missing from this amazing EARLY 1960's solo electric performance. I give it 4 stars b/c the the Sugar Hill songs on 'Boogie Chillen' are better, but that doesn't mean that this cd isn't worth it's printing. If you like live electric solo JLH, this will not be a miss.

HOOKED ON HOOKER!!!!!, May 20, 2010

I must, respectfully, disagree with the previous reviewer! The 19 tracks on this cd, recorded on 11/8 & 11/9 at the Sugar Hill on Broadway in San Francisco 1962, are just as good as those on the "Boogie Chillun" cd!!! Compare tracks 1-10 on the "Boogie Chillun" cd, originally released as "Live At Sugar Hill" on Galaxy # 8205, with those on this Vol.2 and I dare you to not give this the same 5 star treatment!!! What a great job Fantasy Records has done 40 years later (2002) in making this MUST HAVE collection available! The cd is just over 76 minutes of live solo Hooker at his best! Digital editing and mastering by Joe Tarantino at Fantasy Studios, Berkley is excellent! Lee Hildebrand's liner notes are very informative and a great read! The packaging is, over all, TOP NOTCH! In these two cds, recorded at Sugar Hill, you have one of the finest live solo Hooker performances ever captured for posterity! Check it out! 'Nuf said!
