Editorial Reviews

Product Description
It was 1999, about 11:00PM on a hot summer night in Los Angeles when Malevolent Creation arrived at the Whisky A go go. They took the stage at midnight and unleashed upon the audience an abusive barrage of instrumental brutality highlighted by supersonic

3.0 out of 5 stars Real MC Fans Only, June 14, 2008
By John W. Komdat "jwkomdat" (Denver, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Live At the Whisky A Go-Go is a relatively poor recording of an amazing band. If you love Malevolent Creation because they are the fastest and heaviest death metal band out there, you will probably love hearing this nearly ten-year-old recording. I didn't know that the show was in 1999 when I bought this album, so I was a little disappointed with the sound quality. The instrumentation is definitely as good as always. Being such an old recording, most of the songs are from the album The Fine Art of Murder. Crowd energy doesn't really matter to me on a live album, but here it is clearly a very small audience. The biggest drawback of the album is the gaps between the songs (all the audio cuts out for about 3 seconds), but with the tiny amount of attention that even the best death metal gets these days from record companies, I can't blame MC for that.

The best part of this album is the line-up. Malevolent Creation has changed members (excluding Phil Fasciana) throughout their career (Fasciana immediately kicking out and replacing any member that couldn't keep up). The line-up on this album is the absolute best of MC's career in my opinion: Fasciana and Rob Barrett on guitar, Dave Culross on drums, Gordy Simms on bass, and Bret Hoffman (whose name will never be spelled correctly) on vocals.

I recommend starting with Conquering South America for a live MC album. But if you've been listening since 1999, I'd consider this a must.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Live album. Not the best, January 11, 2009
By Brian Woody (Columbus, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews

I am a collector. That is the main reason I got this release. It has 2 to 3 second pauses in between the tracks. So, for those of you that would not like that. I wouldn't buy this. The sound quality is not the best. It was recorded on the house machine at the Whiskey. So, it's not "Pro Audio". I saw them on this tour and love the line up. That is why I purchased it. If your a person who like's pro live albums that are tweeked and perfect. I'd buy something else. If you do want decent live material. I would buy their "Conquering South America" instead or new DVD Lost Comandments instead if you want a better quaility live material from this band.
