5.0 out of 5 stars About the best live album I have ...., February 27, 2004
This review is from: Live at Whiskey River Landing (Audio CD)
....and I have quite a few.
I have only recently become a fan of the band, but what a sensational troupe of people they are.

Having bought "Deux Voyages", it seemed to me obvious that the next album to buy should be a live one and I made the right choice. They were obviously very relaxed when they recorded the album - it comes through very clearly. The atmosphere is electric and the band just stomp along at such a lick. The 53-odd minutes seemed over in a flash. I had such a ball listening to it - i had to listen to it again immediately to make sure I didn't miss anything.

No weak track, just wonderful Cajun music. They sing and talk in either French or English and slip between the two languages naturally and with the utmost ease.

Just a sensational album and one for the connoisseurs of ALL music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cajun Music, March 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at Whiskey River Landing (Audio CD)
My daughter, who lives in Louisiana, recently gave me this CD. I had never heard of the group but had other Cajun and Zydeco CD's for comparison. Overall, this has to be one of the best I have which includes Beausoleil, David Doucet, D.L. Menard, Bruce Daigrepont, Queen Ida, Clifton Chenier and Jo-El Sonnier. I highly recommend you add this CD to your collection if you like Cajun music. For the full pleasure, I recommend you listen to the CD at least once with a good set of earphones. I am in the heart of Bluegrass music country and this Cajun music is also greatly appreciated.

4.0 out of 5 stars Custom-made for Dancing, July 5, 2009

Don't listen to this if you don't like to dance; it will force you to your feet. Fiddle, accordion, guitar, bass, and drums form the basis of this music, Cajun in origin and infused with just a hint of a rock and roll sensibility. Balfa Toujours comprises Christine Balfa (guitar, triangle, and vocals), Kevin Wimmer (fiddle and vocals), Dirk Powell (accordion, fiddle, and vocals) and Craig Guillory (bass), and the group was augmented for this live gig by drummers Todd Aucoin and Geno Delafose. The net result is energetic music that is custom-made for dancing; although Christine Balfa's vocals are not all that pleasing, you will not care, because you will be swept away by the sheer energy and high spirits of it all. If you have never encountered Cajun music before, "Live at Whiskey River Landing" would be a great place to start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great recording, July 9, 2007
This review is from: Live at Whiskey River Landing (Audio CD)
First of all, these are great sound quality and very little audience interference for a live recording. Very easy to listen to.

The tunes and songs are great. I've got all their albums now and listen to them all the time.
