With his "Live At Sunrise" cd out of print, rock legend Dave Mason's latest release "Live At XM Satellite Radio", is more than an adequate replacement. His guitar playing and singing have never been better, and his band is well rehearsed playing a flawless set of classic rock tunes, that proves to be captivating. There is no filler at this show, as every single song rocks the house with vintage Dave Mason early seventies rock n roll. You don't want to miss "Only You Know And I Know". "We Just Disagree", "Look At You, Look At Me", "Dear MR Fantasy", "All Along The Watch Tower", and of course the song that has withstood the test of time like no other "Feeling Alright", which features a blistering guitar duel between Dave and band member John Sambataro. Also included, are some nice bonus tracks of Dave singing the Eagles "Take It To The Limit"[which first appeared live on his 1976 LP ""Certified Live". A duet with the late Jim Capaldi "40,000 Headmen", and a brand new studio track "Deaf Dumb and Blind". Rumor has it that Dave will be releasing a new studio cd in the near future titled "Alone Together Again". If this release is any indication, it proves that Dave Mason is still a talented singer and guitarist who is as good as any of the other so called classic rock guitar legends. After hearing this release, I certainly am looking forward to hearing his long anticipated new studio release in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars DAVE MASON LIVE/STUDIO-ONE FROM THE VAULT, June 10, 2007
By

This review is from: Live at XM Satellite Radio (Audio CD)
Dave Mason fans will enjoy this release of some of Mr. Mason's finest performed to a "live" studio audience a few years ago. Complete with classics from the Traffic staples Dear Mr. Fantasy, Feelin' Alright and 40,000 Headmen, as well as such solo favorites World in Changes, Only You Know And I Know and Look At You, Look At Me from "Alone Together" and the hit song We Just Disagree, plus Dave's rousing rendition of All Along The Watchtower, this is a nice addition to any Dave Mason fans' collections. Interviews with Dave in addition to three rare bonus tracks, including a live version of the Eagles' Take It To The Limit, round out the CD. The band is tight, the solos crisp and Mason's vocals are still more than adequate. Much better than any recycled "greastest hits" offerings we see so much nowadays from fading rockers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Rock's most underrated ......................, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Live at XM Satellite Radio (Audio CD)
This cd, was recorded at XM radio's studio in 2004. It also has 3 bonus tracks, including the new "deaf, dumb and blind" The new song is reason enough to buy the cd. It's also climbing up the AC Charts.

In addition to the bonus tracks, we're served up some of the best material from Dave's history. The recording is sharp, the band is tight, Dave's vocals are better than ever, his guitar playing (on his RKS guitars)is amazing, and finally the songs are classics. Run, don't walk to add this to your collection. It will remain in your cd player for a long time.

Some Rock Veterans Fade Away, Some Die, Some Continue to Record and Tour slightly beyond their Prime...And then, there is Dave Mason.

After 40 Years in the business, Dave has it both ways, now he does enjoy his Time Off in a Big Spead in Southern California, but he is still Working and playing Sold-Out Concerts and making his Highly-Crafted Rock Music as well as he ever has.

I am Lucky, as he visits my Hometown at LEAST Twice a Year, and plays to a Packed-House everytime. I saw him leaving a Local Radio Station, as he just completed an Interview, he was Smiling and gave me a quick chat and an Autograph. I did ask him when he was going to Re-Release: "Dave Mason is Alive" that Fantastic Record from 1973 that has avoided a CD like the Plague. Dave, laughed and said: "You remember That?" Then he said for me to look for this CD as it was Due to come out soon, and had most of the Songs on "Alive" featured {this was Summer 2007}. My Two Minutes talking to a Legend of Rock, stand out as a very Cool Memory. Dave is a Good Guy that Loves his Life and really cares about his Fan's. He like's to use the Word: "Lucky" to describe all the Fun & Music he has enjoyed over all these Years. I always liked his Music and after I got to Talk with him, I really like The Man.

"Dave Mason ~ Live/The Deluxe Edition" is the Place to find Dave where he is really having Fun, On Stage in front of a gasping Audience. The Original release had 7 Tracks. This: "Deluxe Edition" adds Dave's Version of; "Take It To The Limit" from another Show a few years ago. In addition there is a New Studio Version of: "40,000 Headmen" that was Recorded with Jim Capaldi just before Jim's passing. To Close Up, Dave has included; "Deaf, Dumb & Blind" another recent Studio Track that Holds Up well with his Classics of Times Gone By.

"We Just Disagree", "World in Changes", "Only You Know and I Know", "Dear Mr. Fantasy","Feelin' Alright", "Look at You, Look at Me", "All Along The Watchtower". Dave was right, he Sounds as Good OR Better than he did on that 1973 Record, he hasn't Burned Out or Faded Away. Dave Mason IS Alive, and he is still Rockin'

4.0 out of 5 stars "Feelin' Alright" ? You'll be much better after this one!, June 29, 2007
This review is from: Live at XM Satellite Radio (Audio CD)
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.

"Live At XM Satellite Radio" captures Dave Mason's appearance on XM during 2004. The representation of many of his trademark songs, well-executed cover versions, terrific fidelity, and bonus tracks make this an easy decision.

Mason's ability has been taken for granted by some but those that have followed his career in and out of Traffic understand his excellence. "Only You Know And I Know", "We Just Disagree" and "Feelin' Alright" find Dave's voice in fantastic form. You can be fooled into thinking the versions are decades old by the clarity and conviction of the vocals.

"All Along The Watchtower" (Bob Dylan) lets Mason pay homage to his friend Jimi Hendrix. Jimi may hold the most well known cover version but Mason's should be right up there for the power and passion. Speaking of covers as a bonus track the Eagles tune "Take It To The Limit" is included from another venue.

If the CD only contained "40,000 Headmen" (Bonus Track - unreleased studio duet with Jim Capaldi) it should be proudly represented in the collection.

Mason is going to satisfy both the long time fan and the causal one. Those that have been on board for years will be immensely pleased how solid of a performance this is. For the fan that likes his better-known tunes, they will marvel how he can sound so superlative outside the confines of the recording studio.

Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

He still has it. This a must have for Dave Mason fans. Recorded during a live performance in the XM theater, the recording quality of this album is outstanding. One of my favorite versions of "All Along the Watchtower" and many other classics including "Feelin Alright".

....even if it was the only song on the CD- musical solos were outstanding. Dave Mason's still a musical genius. My husband and I thoroughly enjoy this entire CD. After seeing him with his band at Lock 3 in Akron, Ohio, we weren't sure the CD could compare but it has turned out to be a continuation of our enjoyment. We recommend this CD to anyone who is a fan of classic rock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Music from Dave Mason, July 13, 2007
By
This review is from: Live at XM Satellite Radio (Audio CD)
Although advancing into his early 60s, Dave Mason continues to demonstrate his guitar and singing mastery inside and outside the studio. Like many fans, I long for a studio album of new songs from Mason. Not to disappoint, the Live at XM Satellite Deluxe Edition teases listeners with a haunting new studio-created song entitled Deaf, Dumb, and Blind. That song alone is worth the price of the album.

I bought this CD after catching one of the cuts on XM Radio. I hadn't really thought about Dave Mason in years. This CD has been a real pleasant suprise, and a good reminder of how involved Dave was with rock music in the late sixties and early seventies. On this live CD, he's in excellent voice, and his guitar playing is still extremely sharp. I would highly recommend this CD to any serious rock fan. It's been playing in my car for a month, and I still enjoy listening.
