5.0 out of 5 stars Completely fabulous!
I was so very fortunate to usher at one of Tommy's performances in February 2006 at the Bass Performance Hall's McNair Rehearsal Studio in Fort Worth, TX. Tommy is an incredible acoustic guitar player. He plays exceptionally well and so effortlessly! He is definitely a "CGP" as this album states... a Certified Guitar Player. Not only does he play the songs on the CD...

3.0 out of 5 stars Its OK
Very good music and great guitar. However, because it was live and in some type of entertainment facility, there is a lot of hollow echo. That detracts from the quality of the music. Some voices are muffled and hard to understand. Otherwise, good.

Not only does he play the songs on the CD with such great style, but he also wrote most of the songs himself. Before the show I was lucky enough to be ushering next to Tommy's merchandise table, so I got to hear the interactions between Tommy's manager and the patrons/Tommy's groupies - many of whom have followed him around the country to hear him play - on the topic of "the best album to purchase". This album was the most recommended among Tommy groupies as well as Tommy's manager. I myself bought this album because of the song "Initiation". However, every song has become my favorite.

Excellent collection of music by Tommy Emmanuel. We cued it up in the car the other weekend and before we knew it we'd done a back road tour in the Hill Country of Texas of over 250 miles. We certainly will look for more from Tommy. We're very happy with the ordering and shipping process from Amazon and will do it again.

The quality of the recording of this live album is excellent. One song Tommy horses around with quite a lot is Guitar Boogie. Not even his own creation but a lot of people in the world have agreed to give him credit for perfecting this song. You can hear this song ten times from various performances he has done and hear a different version each time. The version on this LIVE ONE album (Disc 2 cut 6) is BY ITSELF worth the price of this double CD live album. As always, Tommy nails every single note on every single song. There he is live on stage with ZERO flaws, no matter how insanely fast he plays. In addition to his obvious playing skills, his astounding intros and endings, even the teaser endings that lead to the real ending, are simply delicious. This album is pure listening bliss for even the most critical guitar music lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing, December 10, 2006

This is a tremendous value, considering how many of his "standard" pieces are represented. If you want an introduction to Tommy, this is a good choice. Endless Road would be my other recommendation.

I found the musicality to be first rate, yet the mixdown suffered from what I assume was less than ideal recording environment. Tommy plays through a small stage setup with his eq/reverb being pretty much self-contained, and this recording sounds like they got the house mix rather than a more suitable master.

Not to worry, you'll enjoy every minute of it. That's why I gave it 5 stars.

TOmmy - On One Better. Prefer his solo performances though to these recordings of live stuff.

When Chet Atkins heard Tommy he said he was the best guitar player in the world. He was right.

5.0 out of 5 stars guitar player genius, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Liveone (Audio CD)
Tommy Emmanuel brings a new side to the art of playing the guitar by utilizing it to make sounds as if he were playing in a band . I've seen a video of him playing a solo and would have sworn,if my eyes were closed, that he was NOT the one making the sounds I was hearing ! He's a genius with the guitar and uses it to it's potential !If you don't believe me ,then listen to this CD !!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tommy's live and still knows how to play!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Liveone (Audio CD)
While a few years old, Tommy still has that magic when it comes to his Maton, not to mention his disconnected bass line provided by Thomas Thumb! Great album which shows what most people know, Tommy cannot only produce great studio albums, he is one of the best live entertainers and players around. By the way Tommy, you need to play more at home in Oz!!!
