I'd read this book if I had to crack a code to do it, November 23, 2002
This review is from: Lives of the Poets: The Story of One Thousand Years of English and American Poetry (Hardcover)
My copy (found in a used book store in Boston next to an amazing French Vietnamese restaurant) was so torn and tattered I had to hold it together with rubber bands. In the past, reading bios of my favorite authors was like finding your dear old uncle was a pediphile. These stories focused on the amazing creativity formed by the lives of extraordinary people. I looked for years for a better used copy - no one sells them. This book is the last thing to go before you get evicted!

I know what that reviewer means by the rubber band holding this book together. I'm not quite to that point, even though it has had hard use since 1965. It is a wonderful compendium of the lives of the great poets. I imagine it will remain in print for a long time.
