The Livescribe Pulse ships with a protective sleeve made of some undetermined material. It has a clear plastic window so you can see the Livescribe display, which on rare occasion is handy. There are also two slots for refills with a protective cover. There is also a "Nav Plus" control for basic navigation. Finally, there is a grommet to be used to remove the ink cartridge from the pen which is virtually indispensable when trying to remove the cartridge.

The overpriced leather case has none of those handy features. Inside it has a flap that covers the end of the pen, which is arguably a useful feature. And it has a clip, which the standard case lacks.

I wanted the clip to secure it to my shirt pocket or belt. Guess what? It doesn't work that well for either function. Before I ordered, I called Livescribe to make sure the leather case could be used on a belt. I was told it could. I compared it on the phone with the clip found on many cell phone and PDA case, where the clip fits firmly on the belt and attaches by a stud to the case.

No joy here. The clip is like a somewhat oversized pen clip. It could be forced over a typical men's belt, but would quickly be bent out of shape. Worse yet, the clip is simply retained by an ordinary pocket on the case - apply any pressure and the clip pulls out. Obviously, your Livescribe could disappear all too soon if you used this case on your belt.

Yes, the clip works okay on a shirt pocket, but compared to the original case, there is no advantage. In fact, the original case has more features.

I'm sending this back. I'll go on looking like a geek, which is the way I look anyway, and continue tucking the original case in my shirt pocket.

On the packaging, Livescribe says the "[d]etachable case clip keeps the Pulse smartpen connected to the Liverscribe dot paper". In my opinion, that's not the reason I would want a clip-on case. Moreover, that's not the way it works with the Livescribe Flip Notepad, their shirt pocket size medium.

Hopefully Livescribe will develop a case with a clip and the features found in the original.

I prefer this case to the case provided with the pen. The features I like best about this case are the magnetic cover that protects the pen from possibly dropping out of the case and the clip used to attach it to a notebook or pocket. I do wish it had a space to carry a scribe and extra pen refill. Overall, I would recommend this if you are getting a livescribe pen.Livescibe AAA-00006 Premium Leather Case (Black)

I bought a Livescribe pen with the case last month and thought it went fine together. Right after I used the pen I put it back into the case. The opening of the pen case closes easily without any plastic snaps or velcro. The case offers some protection for my $200 pen so $25 is well worth it.

This pen case is made of inferior leather, the stitching is horrible and messy and the topper is the pen can barely be pushed into it - I was afraid I would break the pen trying to get it in there and the thought of taking the pen in and out of this thing was hysterical - it take me five minutes each time.

The further insult is the price - I was happy to pay this price for a well made pen holder - the only good thing about this holder is the magnet worked well. I have returned mine - do not buy it!

Not much of an improvement over the case that comes in the box. While the addition of the clip is nice, the size and weight of the pen makes clipping it to a shirt or sport coat impractical.

I bought this after it came out months after I had my pen. I got used to the crappy OEM case that comes with the pen, it's not great, but at least the OEM case had 2 slots to hold the stylus tip, and an extra ink cartridge. Thats the only think I liked about the OEM case. This leather quality is good from what I have. The stitching is great no issues after having it for 6 months. The fit for the first month was TOO tight, it was a real pain to get in and especially OUT! but, after a that first month, the leather was finally broken in, and now the pen goes in and out just fine. It's still snug enough to stay in the case when open. The flip to is held in place with a magnet, hopefully it doesn't wear down from constant use. Overall it complements my well over priced smart pen. Definitely would recommend the pen and case to anyone.

As great as the Livescribe pen is...this case is absolutely worthless, and i wish i returned it. It is VERY hard to get the pen in and out of, the magnetic clasp isnt strong enough to keep the flap closed, and its just bulky. it looks nice...there, i found a positive...but thats about it. Save your money or put it towards more pads.

This case is for the Pulse pen and does not fit the Echo Pen. Amazon.com should make this description as such. I am returning the case for a refund.

I bought this along with my Pulse pen, because the reviews that I had read mentioned that the case that comes with it doesn't seem sufficient for keeping the pen protected. I haven't actually used the free case, but it seemed snug enough that the pen wouldn't be likely to slip out of it, which is the main reason why I wanted this case with the magnetic closure. For the price, though, I don't mind having the extra piece of mind..especially considering how expensive the pen is. But if you aren't going to be tossing the pen into a bag frequently, the standard case really should be enough.

Actually, I had hoped the ECHO would fit this case, (it did not), as the PULSE case is adequate and only lacks a clip for the shirt pocket. However, the case fits the PULSE just fine (after removal of the cardboard packing tube, of course) and is quite nice, no complaints with the quality. A similar case for the ECHO would be a good idea!
