A true gem!!!,
By Aaron B. (u.s.a.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Livin in a Great Big Way (Audio CD)
Banu Gibson is virtually the only vocalists today who sings exclusively tunes from the 20's & 30's, however she does not sound like red hot mamma or a Betty Boop sound alike, as a matter of fact she sounds authentically from the 30's, but original(she sounds closer to Connee Boswell than anyone else). This New Oreans jazz songstress swings and sings hotter or sweeter than anyone alse around today. Here she is not accompanied by her usualy New Orleans Hot Jazz Band, but by two exellent stride pianists(both reminiscent of Teddy Wilson and earl Hines(or even Rube Bloom!) in the 30's. Gibson is heard in prime form sounding authenticly from the 30's yet uniquely her own. A truly great cd, by a great singer. She will knock your socks off. WHAT A VOICE! All of her cd's come highly recommended and this one's no exception.
