5.0 out of 5 stars R.I.P., March 17, 2003
By
Mouse (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Livin Legend (Audio CD)
The Hottest Hot Boy is back and better than ever. This is his best cd since 1997, even though his last cd Checkmate was hot (better than Chopper City in the Ghetto), he shines without the help of the Cash Money Millionaires (Juve, Turk, Lil' Wayne, Mannie, & Baby). This cd establish him as a true Legend of the Game. After departing ways with Cash Money Records, it was said, "he could not resume his career without the help of Fresh and the Hot Boys." Well, he's here to stay. He needs to keep dissing CMR for dropping like Mack 10; Hood Rich, garbage; 500 Degrees, so so; The Birdman, not fly at all. By the way, where ya at Juve and Turk, the fans haven't heard from ya since you left the CMR family. B. Gizzle proves he was the cornerstone of Cash Money Records with this disc. From tracks 1 through 18, he displays his thuggish lyrics with hard knocking beats. The street tales he demonstrates on this disc were long overdue. He finally has put the bling, bling sh-t to rest. Sorry Cash Money for dying without B.G., but life goes on. Baby stop try to sell B.G.. CMR is due to release a new Hot Boys CD 3/25/03 with B.G. on the disc. Rest in Peace Cash Money, it's all about Chopper City..

4.0 out of 5 stars b.g. is capable of more, July 29, 2003

Let's face it, even while B.G. was on cash money records, he was the underachiever. His albums were not promoted as well as Lil Wayne's. Then again, Chopper City in the Ghetto struck platinum and Checkmate hit gold status quickly.
On Livin Legend, the former Hot Boy hits his listeners with around 30 tracks of gangsta rap, albeit unoriginal. The major problem is the production. Like it or not, Mannie Fresh's beats suited B.G.'s rapping style. B.G. has found some decent producers in Ke-Noe(C-Murder's former producer) and Kidd. Problem is, these guys have been producing for underground artists for most of their lives and their production does not agrre with a seasoned veteran such as B.G..
Despite this flaw, Livin Legend is capable of commercial success. On the first single, "Hottest of the hot", the production manages to come through in a major way. The highlight of the album however, comes on the second disc on a collaboration with ex- no limit soldier Soulja Slim. The two compliment each other's style perfectly, leaving the listener eager for their group disc.
