Livin' On Love for Ilse,
By P. van Vliet (Rotterdam, ZH Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Livin on Love (Audio CD)
"Livin' On Love" is Ilse's third CD after "World of Hurt" (4x platinum!) and "Dear John," (recorded live in Amsterdam, containing 9 songs written by John Hiatt). With this album Ilse proofs she's not just another goodlookin' girl from Holland who wants to sing! The first single from the album is "Livin' On Love".Another great track is "I Still Cry". This beauty really makes the audience at her concerts fall in love with her! Also very beautiful are the ballads "Breathin'", "Peaceful In Mine" and "Breathe In, Breathe Out". Ilse was very proud to have Alison Krauss sing the background vocals on "When You Put It Like That". And I must say, it sounds really, really good! I advise you to buy this album right now, you won't be disappointed!

A Great Singer!,

This CD is a wonderfully produced collection of very nice songs, but the real feature is Ilse's voice. She sounds tough and soft at the same time. In a time of slick and glammed up crossover artists, here's one who sings better, sounds better, and delivers with strength and emotion. There's just no comparison between Faith Hill's "Breathe" and Ilse's "Breathe In, Breathe Out". I only wish it would have been Ilse performing at this year's Grammys.

You might be confused by how this album is in the album-list, it says: cd-single. But it is the full-lenght cd! Beyond gravity gives me goosebumps! I can describe every song here, but to be honest; listening to the album is much better than reading my review. So buy it right now! (then there's more time to listen!)

"UNKNOWN" ARTIST?,

Apologies - Correction. I wrote a review for Ilse de Lange's "World Of Hurt" and mentioned "I Still Cry" (one of my favourite tracks - I have both albums and made the mistake) This album falls short of 5 stars because I am totally hooked on WOH. Also this one is less "country". There are great tracks on "Livin' On Love" though, besides the title track. I am a female myself and I enjoy (mainly) male country artists, especially duo's. But there are a few exceptions besides Ilse de Lange. She's just great!

World of Hurt and Living on Love showcases a unique voice that is gives new life to the country music scene. Highlights for me are this CD are Good Thing, Breathin, I Still Cry, Peaceful in Mind, Breathe in Breathe Out, Everwhere I Go, When You Put It Like That, Naked Heart, & Beyond Gravity....with World of Hurt equally as good. Only problem is her music has not been released to the states which means Europe gets to enjoy her music while most Americans may never here her. I guess she ranks up their with Patsy Cline, Tammy Waynette, and Reba in raw talent.

I purchaced this cd and brought it back to the States to the middle of no where(Nebraska) and everyone who hears this cd wonders first who is this? and second how can they get a copy of this cd. Ilse has a wonderful voice, and no you can not tell she is DUTCH! Her music is touches the soul and make it worth it. Even if you do not like country music you will love this.

Worthy follow-up album,

Ilse's second studio album is a truly worthy successor to her first success "World of Hurt". Although the style is a little different (less country-like), it's a great album with good diversity in the songs. From the brilliant rocker "Ride The Wind To Me" to the beautiful, heart-warming ballad "I Still Cry", this album has it all. I must admit the first album is still my favourite, this one has seen the inside of my CD-Player for quite some hours already. Excellent album - buy it!
