As mentioned by other reviewers and myself on other JL album reviews, Jackie, sadly, is one of- if not the- most ignored, underated and uncelebrated artists of the later part of the twentieth century. His albums IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT, HOME IS IN MY HEAD and THREE are all in my top 50 albums of all time. They are 5 star releases and until most recently, were not even available on CD. Lomax has a smooth R&B influence but is a gritty rock and roller all rolled into one. A unique talent that never caught on beyond the tastes of fellow musicians (Clapton, Harrison, Bowie to name but a few) and a small cadre of loyal fans. The good news is the albums are all on CD finally!! This is not his best but still 4 stars. Thats how good he is...

Jackie Lomax is a long-lost/never found gem. One of the best white R&B/soul voices to have come out of the sixties and seventies, he was unappreciated at the time and unheard of today and what a shame that is for lovers of great blues/soul/pop music. After the Undertakers, Lomax Alliance, his spell on Apple records, his time with Heavy Jelly, his two Warner Brothers albums and one album as a member of Badger, he signed with Capitol in 1975 and this, his first album for them appeared the following year. LIVIN' FOR LOVIN' again featured his own brand of white R&B/soul but with a funkier underpinning: it continued the high standard set by previous Lomax releases and featured him playing 'voice box guitar' which Peter Frampton would use to worldwide acclaim the same year. Once again, however, the LP failed to raise a great deal of interest. Wonderful songs, great playing and singing... bluesy R&B at its best... there's not a bad track on this album but the ones that stand-out for me are ON THE ROAD TO BE FREE, IT ISN'T ONLY LOVE and I REMEMBER. Toshiba-EMI in Japan have given us all a chance to listen to the album again and hopefully, it will be appreciated more than it was in the mid-70s. This and the follow-up DID YOU EVER HAVE THAT FEELING? are long overdue for re-issue/re-appraisal and a welcome addition to any CD collection. I wonder if Jackie Lomax will be getting any royalties from this issue though? I hope so.
