4.0 out of 5 stars Detailed guide to five primary aikido techniques, September 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Aikido: Form, Training, Essence (Paperback)
This book is not a general guide, but rather concentrates on just five primary Aikido techniques. However, it goes into very great detail on Ikkyo, Shiho-Nage, Koshi-Nage, Kokyu-Nage, and Irimi-Nage. There are a number of useful photos showing *wrong* positioning. If you are actually attempting to learn these techniques from the book, this book is quite good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zhan Shu Chuan (Fighting strategy fist), February 22, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Aikido: Form, Training, Essence (Paperback)
I have read the above titled book Living Aikido and found it to be a very enlightening experience. Although I have studied Zhan Shu Chuan for over 17 years I was still able to find excellent tips that would help sharpening the novice technique through the advanced practitioner. If you are looking for a book that will help you use the proper technique instead of forcing your way through a move, This is one of the best none chinese books I have had the pleasure of reading. A point I felt worth mentioning was that we have 2 women in our class that have also had the pleasure of reading this book and I have witnessed marked improvements in their time sparring we have a third woman reading my copy as I write this.I hope you find this helpful. Humblely, Ohio Zhan Shu Chuan Coach

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to supplement training, September 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Living Aikido: Form, Training, Essence (Paperback)
This book provides good guides in practising the basic physical fundamentals of akido. I have found the little details in this book very helpful in understanding how to touch up the four basic aiki movements. The author is able to impart his knowledge in a way that is applicable to me. Overall, a book that I would recommend using as a supplement to training.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice book!, September 2, 2010

This review is from: Living Aikido: Form, Training, Essence (Paperback)
This book shows you only five different Aikido throws with plenty of photos from different angles. The author has the right idea of concentrating on a minimum of moves instead of throwing all he can at the reader which often overwhelms. Very well put together.

This is a good book, with many photographs to illustrate the techniques included, and to help illustrate the principles behind those techniques.

There are many used copies available via this site.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good introductory book..., December 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Living Aikido (Hardcover)
This author was once one of the brightest stars among American instructors of Aikido, having trained or trained with many of the names who are now staples in the art. This book is insightful, and purposefully narrow in its approach, by giving very detailed information about only a few of the most fundamental Aikido techniques.
