The text is easy to read and flows freely from one topic to another. The last section gives basic information on each tree. Excellent-quality, captioned photographs account for at least two thirds of the book. Most are in full color, but there are many archival shots that enable readers to make historical comparisons. The pictures are placed in creative ways to heighten and hold interest. The index is detailed, permitting access to specific topics, but students may need to read entire chapters in order to understand fully an aspect of a topic and place it in its proper perspective.
