This was one of the most inspirational and motivational books I've read in a long time. Jen honestly shares this amazing experience and every page is infused with her indomitable spirit! It's contagious! While I have no desire to do an iron man competition - the principles, enthusiasm and encouragement she shares translates to any "mountain" we desire to climb in our lives. I read the book in one sitting - couldn't put it down - it was that good. It will light a fire under you to step out and accomplish that "thing" in your life!

Anyone can do just about anything--- as long as you put your mind to it. That is the message Jen McDonough leaves one with after reading this inspiring book. Written as though she is sitting in your living room with you, the author tells the trying and true tale of training for her first Ironman competition. Be prepared to giggle out loud while reading. Nothing beats the story of the bike dominoes! You will also appreciate the undying support offered to Jen by her family. I enjoyed this quick and easy read. It truly is inspiring.

As if her life weren't already action-packed: juggling overlapping schedules, holding down a full time job, managing a house full of kids, Jen decides she needs another challenge. So what does she do? She commits herself to the grand-daddy of all challenges, the Ironman Triathlon.

From the time her toes dip into the early-morning Florida waters, to the moment she carries herself across the finish line, Jen takes us through the journey.

A fun and easy read, you'll find yourself laughing at the highs, crying at the lows, and cheering her along with every step, stroke and mile.

This book is not about athletics. Living Beyond Awesome is about determination, commitment and all that is possible.

Get it for everyone in your family.

I received the book a few days ago and once I picked it up I just kept coming back to it. It is written in a manner that makes you feel like you are right there beside Jen as she trains and conquers her fears and occasional self doubt. I found myself laughing, and crying along with her throughout her journey. I was cheering out loud when she crossed the finish line. I was amazed at her strength and how it was so evident that she drew it from God and the wonderful family he had blessed her with. Definitely a book worth reading. Although, I don't think I will ever run a triathlon(and have no desire to)I find myself inspired to step out of my comfort zone and take on a few "goals" of my own. Don't Quet, Jen! Can't wait for your second book.

Reading Jen's book has opened a door of discovery and passion within me. Recently, I have taken on a new job requiring long work hours and high stress. Adding to that, I am raising my wonderful daughter full-time and trying to be a positive influence and role model. I have been so exhausted both mentally and physically which has led to a feeling of emptiness and hunger for fulfillment in my life. After reading "Living Beyond Awesome" and discovering Jen's journey of how a busy mom could overcome difficult obstacles including juggling work and family life to do something truly amazing that few people have accomplished has made her story very real and inspirational. It means that any challenges in life that are seemingly insurmountable can be overcome and in fact conquered with faith and determination!

Passion ignited!

If you're looking for a book about the great sport of triathlon or ironman-this book isn't for you. It lacks details that make it interesting and show knowledge of the sport. It's the little details that put you in the authors place and makes you imagine that you are on the race course right beside her that I felt were missing.

The writing of this book is amateurish. I think it's written in a tone to make you feel like you're having a conversation with a friend. Instead I felt like I was stuck in Jen's head as her thoughts bounced all over the place with out making sense. The book is written very choppily, with events written out of sequence and lots of uncompleted thoughts.

But, it's still an inspiring read. Anyone that can successfully train for and complete an ironman is an inspiration to me, but to do it with 5 kids? Awesome! I think if you're looking for something to lift you up and give you a little smile, this is it. It's a fast easy read. If you want to learn more about the sport itself, look for another book.
