Book Description

This book makes the case that it IS possible to live a clutter-free life with kids in the house. Well, at least “clutter-free…ish.”

I say “ish” because it’s a constant effort. When you have kids in the house, the mess keeps coming. As a father of six children, I can relate!

But you don't have to surrender to the complexity! You really can gain control of the clutter that plagues you.

1- "Is Decluttering Really That Important?"
2- 6 Kids & Mostly Sane (A personal story)
3- Don't Focus on the Clutter
4- Proper Expectations
5- Baby Steps=The Cure for the Time Dilemma
6- First, Stop the Inflow!
7- Practice the "One-In-One-Out" Rule
8- A Home for Everything
9- Process to Zero
10- Get Everyone Involved
11- Make it Fun! - 10 Decluttering Games for Kids & Their Parents

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read. Great principles. July 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I came across this gem today and am so glad that I did. My husband and I have 5 boys (plus we live with my in-laws) so we have all the clutter that comes with kids! After reading this book, though, I learned that the clutter doesn't have to be here! I mean I knew that already but I feel like I can actually fix it now. In fact, I'm in the middle of cleaning and organizing our homeschool room, and now I can't wait until tomorrow so I can utilize some of the things I read here.
I loved this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars quick and simple July 8, 2013
By Cathy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book was just what we were looking for. We are moving in 24 days from a 2000 square feet to 1000 and looking forward to downsizing. We are selling our house and renting another because we found all our time and money were being stolen from us by household projects. Instead of those resources available to us as a family, they went straight into our money pit, I mean our home. We want more time for our kids, not home projects. So, we're moving. But we also know that moving isn't the only key to a more simple life. We need to declutter. To say this book came along at the right time is an understatement. It was a quick read, filled with great ideas that anyone can do. And best of all, I didn't have to clutter my bookshelf to benefit from it. Thank you, Mike! I will be reading this with my kids also (ages 11 & 13) so we are all on the same page. I'm also going to get your other book, Simpler: Declutter Your Life and Focus on What's More Important.
P.S. As I finish this review, I have more boxes packed for a garage sale than I do to take with me...and so do my kids! Woo-hoo!!

4.0 out of 5 stars quick & concrete advice October 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My favorite idea was to empty a drawer or whatever into a box and as you need things, you can take it out. If you never take it out, the decision to get rid if it is done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Tips! September 19, 2013
By Jayla
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Living with our four children has proven to be a bit of a challenge at times because everyone seems to march to their own beat when it comes to caring for our home. When I got this book for my Kindle, I was hoping for some ideas to help us, and that is exactly what I got with this book! It was short and concise enough to read during a couple of business trip flights I had recently. I highlighted several tips that I had not thought of before. My children are a little older (12,12,13 and 17) than those of the author, but it inspired a few creative ideas that my husband and I have started implementing in our quest for a clutter-free home. Plenty of helpful hints for all ages. Thank you!

I have read many books on simplifying, decluttering, organizing and purging that I should be an expert. Yet I still struggle. THIS book finally gave me a fresh perspective on my "clutter". I definitely recommend 'Living Clutter-Free with Kids in the House" by Mike Burns. Not just for families but excellent advice for anyone! Buy this book!!

5.0 out of 5 stars First REALISTIC clutter free book I've read! March 12, 2015
By Julie S
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I constantly struggle with all the "stuff" in our house, especially with two small children. I've tried reading many other books on the subject, but this was the first one that really hit home with me. It's a quick and easy read, but has so much down to Earth and relate-able information. Helped me change how I thought of the whole de-cluttering process and how to get the whole family involved. I will definitely be going back to this book for ideas and refreshers when I get stuck in a de-cluttering rut again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some stories from a family with 6 kids June 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I like it because it has stories and tips on how to live a life with no clutter and kids. It emphasizes a lot on what are your priorities???? so you focus on them ( your priorities) and decluttering or having everything uncluttered is a way to conquer them or it actually helps you achieve what you really want: have more quality time with family, friends or yourself, have a hobby, or whatever, instead of being cleaning and organizing all your spare time. This gave me another point of view an a different and powerful impulse in my decluttering task, since I was feeling stuck. I have started again and it is great. Also I got some ideas on how it has to be with the kids, the toys, the house. Thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical May 23, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love that the ideas are very practical and down to earth. Since I started reading the book, I have given about ten bags of "homeless" stuff away. I stopped several times while reading to go do something suggested and I'm more motivated to get the kids on board.
