It really goes to show you can go through a lot in life and come through to the other end happy and in love.

I loved this book - the author added many touches to this with characters from other stories.

While I regret to throw cold water on all the Hauser afficianados who rave about this book, I just didn't buy the plot, let alone the characterization of the 230 pound, PTSD-suffering, internalizing homophobic ex-Navy Seal, and the elfin, 20 year old, cross-dressing, prostituting, fashion student. I admit- this was my first Hauser novel -or novellette- given its short length and maybe others are better. I knew I was in for something unusual when I opened the expensive paperback to the title page and the novel started on the back of it, with the most prominent print on the second page being the prosecution warning about reprinting the book. Is this where M/M fiction is going? Quantity over quality? Just throw something out every few months and advertise like heck? If this is a true sample of the "GA Hauser" book industry then I will save my money and time for the many fantastic authors who don't abuse their readers.

When Brandon Kennedy left the Navy, he lost most of his direction. Married but unhappy and drifting, he's more focused on getting high, getting off, and trying to maintain some kind of friendship with his old SEAL mates. They way he's acting, though, they may kick his butt for acting the major league fool.

He's also fighting his attraction to guys. It may have been a mistake to go into business with Monty, his old squad leader. The two men have a past, and now that Monty has a man, he can't even go on the down low with him. So he cruises for a high and for something more.

That something more is Anita. Beautiful and sexy. And a hooker. Brandon picks her up and has his way with her, then leaves. There's more than meets the eye with Anita though. She's really Andy, turning tricks to make his way through school.

As Brandon's behavior spirals out of control, he keeps showing up at Anita/Andy's door, wanting more and more. But so very scared to have everyone else know this huge ex-military guy likes dudes. What would the other ex-SEALS think of him then?

Do these two very different people have a future together? Or will Brandon let all his fears keep him in the closet?

G.A. Hauser has given us a timely and in-your-face story about how love, no matter how it looks to someone on the outside, sneaks up on a man and takes his knees out from under him. About the lengths a man will go to protect his false pride. And how, sometimes, tough love is the best kind of love.

Brandon is so very unhappy at heart, and most people would not have given this broken man the time of day. He's unlikeable, and working hard to lose all the goodwill and love his friends might have for him.

I wanted to like this book. With a big ex-Navy SEAL as the lead character, I figured I would give it a shot, plus it is set in L.A. which is a city near and dear to my heart. Unfortunately, I could only struggle to stay with it till a bit past half way. Not only did I not buy into the ridiculous attraction the former SEAL has for a twink cross-dresser, I spent entire time hoping the plot would shift and the twink would get lost. And just for the record, even an ex-SEAL who abuses any drug he can get get his hands on, doesn't sleep for days and eats waffles on the rare occasion that he does eat simply isn't going to have a "perfect body", I don't care how may years he was a SEAL. Also, the trip alone from one of the better neighborhoods where I assume the upscale fitness club is located to Central LA for drugs, then up to West Hollywood for the hooker then back to Culver City - just the driving - would take half of the night, leaving little time for the implausible and rather dull supposed drama to take place. At about the halfway point of the book I realized the twink was not going make an exit, and the ex-SEAL was an ass and I quit reading.

At the end of GA Hauser's book, Happy Endings, Monty and Kellie become a couple and Monty starts to build a business with his best friend and former Seal,Brandon, and several other Seals. Brandon is suffering from a bad case of PTSD and of sexual identity. He meets Andy, who as Anita, is a beautiful cross-dressing male prostitute. So, lets see, a Seal with PTSD and female impersonator husler, what could possibly go wrong? Everything! Once again, GA has brought us into the life of two completely opposite and distraught people, whom we come to love and to guide us through their struggles to hopefully come out the other end of their emotional maze happy and in love. Very few if any other authors can accompish this feat as brilliantly and with as much enjoyment as she does. And as with all of her books, be prepared to start the book and put aside all your other plans until you finish it, because it is impossible to put down. There are of course many very hot sexual encounters to keep your glasses steamed up. In sum, this is one extremely enjoyable and stimulating romp with two characters whom you will not only come to love but never forget. The only problem with the book is that it had to end. Hopefully, we will get to visit with the two of them in a sequel or in a later GA book that brings them back, as many of her characters from previous books return in later ones. Thank you GA for yet one more memorable and loving story.
