Even if you're not a Cubs fan (I am not) this is a good read with lots of baseball and Chicago sports history and plenty of entertaining stories throughout. The author had unbelievable access to the team and its fans. Go White Sox!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. inside, Mr. outside, July 22, 2009

This review is from: Living the Dream: An Inside Account of the 2008 Cubs Season (Hardcover)
Jim McArdle wrote this book from a unique point of view--he worked for the Cubs for 12 years, and quit his job in order to write this book--yet he remained friends with many players and staffers at the Cubs, and had great access behind the scenes. However, where the book really shines is not behind the scenes, but out in the bleachers, in the neighborhood, and on the rooftops. McArdle tells the stories of many Cubs fans, including himself, one by one, making human characters out of many of the bleacher regulars and other faithful fans. In addition, this is one of the best books about the Wrigleyville neighborhood, telling the recent history of each building on Waveland and Sheffield. It's great stuff. Tim Wiles, Cooperstown, NY

4.0 out of 5 stars The Journey of a Lifetime, May 24, 2009
This review is from: Living the Dream: An Inside Account of the 2008 Cubs Season (Hardcover)
This book gives the best account of a Cubs fan's journey during a Cub season. The people you meet from various background have at least one common thread, being Cubs fans. I bought the book to because of the meltdown of the 2008 Cubs. I seriously had to put baby in the corner for at least a month. But I wanted to know how someone, who had to reflect, felt about the meltdown. This book put so much in perspective of why I love this team, year after year, this ballpark, this community, and my fellow Cubs fans. I'm still pissed at the 2008 Cubs, but love them anyway.

Can't give 5 stars because the Cubs didn't win (disappointing ending).
