Short but good June 2, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed Living and Dying very much. The only real criticism I have that it's too short (or rather, that there are too few stories in this collection). Other than that, this book was a very welcome change of pace from my current lecture of the Genji Monogatari and I highly recommend it to everyone who likes short stories.

A follow up to Sevenhuysen's first publication of 50 Word Stories, this short collection brings together 8 pieces of flash fiction which demonstrates that Tim didn't recently develop his amazing talent for short stories, but has been a dab hand for many years! Not only that, but he continues his mastery over the flash fiction format whilst maintaining daily updates on his 50 Word Stories website. (Well worth checking out if you want more short story goodness from Tim Sevenhuysen, the url is in the introduction of this book!)

This collection features 8 stories of varying length and covering a wide range of themes. From the centrepiece story Saucer, a harrowing tale which questions what it means to be alive, to the thought provoking The Story of a Life, Tim ably displays his incredible ability to express emotions, characters and ideas in remarkably few words.
In addition, he also uses this collection to showcase a new style, which he refers to as a 555 story, three distinct pieces of fiction, in 5 words, 50 words and 500 words which each explore a theme under a single title.

A great collection of stories which I highly recommend picking up, both for fans of short fiction and of Tim's other work.
