It's like tagging along to feng shui consultations!, May 9, 2003
This review is from: Living Feng Shui: Personal Stories (Paperback)
I am a person who learns best from specific examples. This book is perfect! Rather than just reading lists of cures or adjustments, we are brought into the home/office/apartment of the clients, learn about their challenges, and find out what was recommended and why. Written in the simple, clear, direct style of her other book, WIND AND WATER, this book expands that information and deepens our knowledge.

Best Feng Shui book I have read, July 6, 2011
I've read every Feng Shui book I could get my hands on, and I love the subject very much. I've learned that there are different approaches to the topic. Some books like to just tell you to do something without any explanation whatsoever - just trust them and put a wacky bright green in a corner of your living room even if it doesn't match anything in the room!
Some books will go into more explanation: green represents money, and this corner of the room reflects abundance in your life, and by putting green there, you are psychologically and symbolically calling more abundance and money into your life.
Some books are a bit more flexible - you can put a green object, or a plant, or something that symbolizes wealth to you in that corner.
And then there is this most unique book on the topic. In Living Feng Shui, the author talks about meeting clients and her subtle impressions of them and their homes, and the clients' goals and how she worked with them to change their home environment to effect change in their lives. The focus is on people and how working with their homes affects their lives.
One client's home is so crowded with stuff that it is even difficult to enter his home, and the author shows how not only stuff is blocking him, he also makes it hard to meet with him, it is hard to make changes at first in his home as he resists every suggestion, and how she works with him over several visits. He clearly had a big theme in his life of blocking energy as well as people, and yet, by starting to gently change things in small steps, he started to change that in his life. By working on a small goal of clearing out 9 things in his home, he was able to start to see effective change and to feel more motivated to work toward more change.
By looking at how he blocks change on many levels in his life, we begin to understand more deeply the metaphors that Feng Shui addresses in our lives. It's not just that we put the big dresser in the wrong spot of our bedroom, but that we are putting a lot of things in the way of our own lives.
The author discusses the metaphors attached to Feng Shui cures - how bells "ring in" new energy, how mobiles and chimes symbolize and embody the wind in our homes, and that movement means something to our lives.
If you really want to understand why Feng Shui rules are helpful, or want a great beginner's start on Feng Shui, this book is very much the first place to start. I only wish there were more books like this on the topic.

Feng Shui really does work, July 18, 2006
This review is from: Living Feng Shui: Personal Stories (Paperback)
This little book is a wonderful example of how well Feng Shui works. It is always fun to read stories of successes. It is also a reminder that you may not get what you want but you always get what you need. As a Feng Shui Practitioner and instructor, I look forward to recommending this book to my students.
