1.0 out of 5 stars shallow, desultory and thoroughly offensive
Mrs. Howell acheives a blend of narcissism, buzz-saw word spirituality and general dissipation only found in small publisher poetry.

This review is from: Living In A Glowing World: Poems For Every Season (Paperback)
If you love poetry, you'll fall in love with Trisha Howell's new book, Living In A Glowing World. As I read each page of this most congenial and mystical book, I was reminded of each
season's offerings, and each season's reasons for being special.

Ms. Howell takes her readers a step further into the seasons by adding new names to what we consider the normal lineup. Along with winter, spring, summer, and autumn, she has identified thaw and harvest. I wondered about the use of the two additional seasons, until I read their poetry and experienced the emotions that are hidden within each. After that, there was no doubt in my mind that Ms. Howell was absolutely correct. There really are six seasons!

Within the pages of this book, we can frolic through the many imaginations of winter with snow on our lips, or we can bask in the passions and fragrances of summer. Each season is consistently thought provoking. Therefore, it really doesn't matter which season is your particular favorite, because throughout each our senses are constantly delighted and surprised by whimsy and visions.

Ms. Howell's truly delightful and engaging children's fiction is well known, but with this book she shows her readers a different side of her professional expertise. She has a diverse and wide-ranging talent for holding our interest in a variety of offerings.

I thoroughly enjoyed the magic and the indulgence of emotions that were dredged up within my soul by reading Living In A Glowing World. This book is deeply spiritual and profound. As I read - and then reread - each special poem, I delighted in the enlightenment as well as the pure joy that each one bestowed. This is a highly recommended book to curl up with, no matter what the season.

This review is from: Living In A Glowing World: Poems For Every Season (Paperback)
Living In A Glowing World offers forty three skillfully written poems rooted in the six seasons of winter, thaw, spring, summer, harvest and autumn. Each distinctive original poem is chock-full of the revealing splendor and elegance of perpetual metamorphosis. Ms. Howell cleverly weaves her words with fascinating clarity to capture the wonder of how nature speaks to us.

The author reflects on the fetching mysteries of the seasons while gently but firmly connecting the reader with the living and the breathing spirit. In one poem titled "What's Really Important", Ms. Howell bears witness to her own inner soul. 5.0 out of 5 stars Rich, llife-affirming seasonal celebration in verse, October 25, 2004
This review is from: Living In A Glowing World: Poems For Every Season (Paperback)
Poetry got kick-started again as a force in American culture- first with poetry slams and Dead Poets Society-and now with Trisha Adelena Howell's Living in a Glowing World, a marvelously spiritual, sensory feast of seasonal poetry that combines Chinese feng shui, Native American connectedness, and a gratitude for nature and our very force of life that all religions can and do celebrate. If Howell's poems were paintings, they might look like Edna Hibel's, with the same deep reverence for the quiet everyday pleasures and the sacredness of nature.

The poetic side to Howell's nature reveals itself as she explores the forgotten nuances of the seasons: watery renewal of winter, airy refreshment of Thaw, creative growth of Spring woods, passionate sultry fiery Summer, grateful Harvest, and metallic balance of Autumn.

Howell's rich, life-affirming poetry is an antidote to cynicism, fast-food-infotainment, and shock value in our culture. Her glowing words give us back that glowing world.
