More About the Author

(www.dannakorn.com) ...
Known as "The Gluten-Free Guru," Danna Korn is an author, motivational speaker, and renowned expert on the gluten-free diet and medical conditions that benefit. She is the author of six bestselling books (her 7th is in the works) on the subject of the gluten-free lifestyle, including three in the prestigious "For Dummies" series. "For Dummies" authors are always the gurus in their field, and are asked to author the books -- not the other way around.

Respected as one of the leading authorities on the gluten-free diet and the medical conditions that benefit from it, she has been featured in People Magazine, on ABC's "20-20," and dozens of other national media outlets.

Danna's passion for helping people live (and love!) a gluten-free lifestyle was born from a desperate need to help her own son. In 1991, her son was diagnosed with celiac disease, a genetic intolerance to gluten. Doctors told her that her son, like others with celiac disease, would "suffer" a life of deprivation and restrictions, and they gave her no direction for following a gluten-free diet, which was the key to his improved health. Danna wasn't about to accept that sentence, nor would she flounder like many others attempting a gluten-free diet did. Furthermore, she was committed to helping others who could benefit from her knowledge. She was a mom on a mission to help millions.

Without the benefit of the internet, and ignoring the widespread warnings that no one would ever publish a book on the subject, Danna conducted extensive medical research with the nation's foremost experts, and then wrote her first book -- she sent four proposals to publishers. She received four acceptances.

Her work in the gluten-free community has had profound effects, resulting in availability of products that would never have made it to store shelves, and a skyrocketing awareness of the benefits of a gluten-free diet.

Several bestselling books and thousands of speaking engagements later, Danna has earned the moniker of "Gluten-Free Guru" -- and in the process has helped improve the lives of millions by helping them adopt healthier lifestyles. She is a partner with General Mills and their gluten-free initiative, and a consultant for Prometheus Laboratories. In 1991 she founded (and still runs) the world's largest support group of its type, R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids), which has more than 140 chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Danna's passion for wellness extends far beyond gluten-free living. She is co-founder and CEO of Sonic Boom Wellness, an innovative corporate wellness company with more than 100 well-known clients throughout the world.

With its simple "Dummies'" approach this book has definitely improved my outlook on being gluten intolerant. Fortunately this is the first "gluten-free" book I got my hands on. I'm glad I paid the overnight shipping because this book ended a lot of agony for me. "What am I going to eat!?" I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks now and the results are amazing. It's been a long time since I've been pain free (my symptoms are arthritic in nature). This book has helped me become optomistic about being able to stay gluten-free for the long-haul and still enjoy food.

I hope no one gives any credence to the review that claims (inaccurately) that Danna's book has an inaccuracy. It doesn't! One reviewer wrote that Danna Korn's book had an inaccuracy because she says there's no such thing as an "allergy" to gluten, and he gave the book a bad review as a result (which, by the way, is like saying the entire restaurant is bad because you personally didn't like one item on the menu). But worse yet, this person's critique was faulty. For one thing, gluten is comprised of wheat, barley, and rye. With allergies, you either have an allergy to wheat, and/or to barley, and/or to rye. But you don't have an allergy to "gluten," even though some doctors will deem it that. Furthermore, the reviewer fails to note that Danna's book was reviewed by an M.D., Michelle Pietzak (one of the foremost experts on celiac disease) and Cynthia Rudert, R.D., of Gluten Intolerance Group -- again, one of the foremost experts. Danna doesn't make this stuff up. She's been doing research for 15 years, and has more knowledge than most medical professionals -- and I AM a medical professional. I think it's irresponsible and downright vicious for someone to make such a hasty and mean-spirited post that may prevent others from enjoying the wealth of inspiration and information. The entire essence of the book is about an optimistic approach, and the book is more well-researched and well-supported than any other out there.

This book is a Godsend. It's as simple as that.

Danna Korn joins her readers by sharing personal accounts; she gives clear, well written definitions of celiac disease, wheat intolerance and gluten. There are 65 excellent recipes included that show just how possible it is to follow a gluten free lifestyle. Readers are also treated to tidbits of humor; gems of wisdom and a plethora of good information such as web sites as to where to shop for the wheat-intolerant/celiac regimen. It answers questions clearly and logically and readers come away with a good understanding of how they can live happily on a gluten free regimen. Many people with autism have shown marked improvement by following this regimin. Luke Jackson, the author of "A User Guide to the GF/CF Diet for Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD" A User Guide to the GF/CF Diet for Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD discusses how eliminating gluten and casein from his diet and those of his siblings improved their health and general performance.

I can't recommend this book highly enough. It is my Get Out of Jail Free Card and my Passport to a Healthier Life and a New Lifestyle. Hats off to Danna Korn!

I am a dietitian and also a Celiac. I have tons of gluten-free books including from this author. This is my favorite! I am going to recommend this to all of my celiac patients. I read the whole thing through even though it is sort of like a reference book, because it was entertaining! I especially love some of her made up words like "glutenated". She made the book fun!

Danna does it again! If you haven't read Danna's books or heard her speak, do yourself a favor and make it a priority. Her newest book, "Living Gluten-Free for Dummies," is part of the famous "For Dummies" series, which speaks volumes for Danna's expertise on the gluten-free lifestyle, and also for how mainstream the gluten-free diet is becoming.

In her trademark style, Danna's energy and optimism permeate the pages, and she guides the reader through every aspect of the gluten-free lifestyle with humor, knowledge, experience, and expertise. Even the most technical information is in Danna's typical easy-to-understand style. She covers the medical, practical, and emotional implications of being gluten-free, and leaves absolutely no stone unturned for anyone on (or considering) the gluten-free diet.

Most of all, she has a passion for being gluten-free, and she exudes that passion with every page. She invites you to skip chapters, but you won't want to. She'll keep you laughing throughout, and will have you convinced that, as she says, "gluten-free's the way to be."

Living Gluten-Free for Dummies is a foundation book which imparts important information with humor...something a Celiac needs.

The inital impact of the diagnosis is overwhelming. LGFFD's provides the right now information the "new" Celiac needs.

It has been 28 years since I was diagnosed with Celiac. Back then there was little information and fewer products available for living gluten-free. Reading this book would have been very helpful to me then, and I may have been spared much of the problems I encountered along the way. Even the Dr. who determined my disease made the error of telling me that after the villi had repaired themselves, I should try gluten again!

Living Gluten Free For Dummies is a very informative book, written with humor and candor to make it an easy read. Thank you Danna Korn.
