5.0 out of 5 stars Living God - My Favorite Catechism, June 4, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Living God: A Catechism for the Christian Faith - Volumes 1 & 2 (Paperback)
This two volume set is just a joy to read. Colorful icons and illustrations are found throughout. Any catechism is going to take you systematically through the various doctrines and teachings. What sets this apart is that the authors draw very heavily from the liturgical and hymnological tradition of the Church. They are taking the ancient Church principle - lex orandi, lex credendi (the rule of prayer dictates the rule of belief) - to lead us through the liturgical calendar and traditions of the Orthodox Church in order to guide us into her faith and life. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Orthodox Catechism Available in English, August 5, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Living God: A Catechism for the Christian Faith - Volumes 1 & 2 (Paperback)
(Review by an adult Orthodox Christian who values his privacy and doesn't want to be forced to sign up for an Amazon account)

Unlike other catechisms which teach in an academic manner or the very Western Question-and-Answer format, this catechism approaches catechesis in a very Orthodox manner -- through the liturgical year and the services. (The best way to learn what the Church teaches, any Orthodox Christian will tell you, is to attend all the services for at least one year. This is the closest thing to that approach that can be encapsulated into a book.)

Every Orthodox Christian (beware people using the term 'orthodox' with a lower-case 'o' in an attempt to pass themselves off as Orthodox Christians!) I've encountered has been **very** impressed with this catechism.

If you can only afford one catechism of the Orthodox Christian faith, this is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most extraordinary, November 13, 2011

This review is from: Living God: A Catechism for the Christian Faith - Volumes 1 & 2 (Paperback)
This work is extraordinary! Revelation after revelation, from page to page. This is one of those books that change everything. The language is very simple. I bet most children can easily understand these concepts; yet most adult readers will undoubtedly find this work riveting. I am very grateful to Father Michael of All Saints of America Orthodox Church in Alexandria for introducing me to this Catechism.
