5.0 out of 5 stars A "Disarming" Read, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I have had the pleasure of sitting in Satsangs with Nirmala, as well as reading his books, and find that there is a feeling of total acceptance which permeates his being, and is equally felt through his writings. I hope I am not exposing a secret when I say that although there are many approaches in spiritual literature which direct us to move from the head to the heart, I find in Nirmala's writing a quality which I can only describe as "disarming." The following quotations may give an idea of what I mean. In Part 2 - The Heart's Wisdom, he says: "The opening and closing of the heart is not a prescription - something you need to practice - but simply a description of what your heart has been doing your entire life." such a phrase leaves nothing for the ego to resist, and adds spaciousness to the process of inquiry. And just when the ego feels it might have material to come back into prominence as it strives to succeed in the process, Nirmala says, "There is never a need to have a bigger or smaller experience, as Being is still Being, even in the small experiences . . . just as a single drop of water is still wet." "One more try," the ego says, and then it reads "Being is never harmed by the limited perspectives we experience . . . Being is already resting within the endless opening and closing of the heart, so you might as well enjoy the ride." And it is then that the ego realizes that it is, and always has been, included in the "ride" and it finally rests. I am very grateful for Nirmala's teachings, and highly recommend his book to those who are ready to stop the struggle and rest in "Being." 5.0 out of 5 stars An Extraordinary Coaching, September 11, 2008
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
Nirmala's book is an invitation to explore the world through a new lens of perception...deep love, peace, stillness and awareness. His coaching is followed by extraordinarily simple exercises that helped me to stop avoiding and resisting the challenges in life. He taught me how to relax into every moment and find the richness that was already there. Before reading this book, I felt an almost constant obsessive desire for more...more love, gratification, experience, more of almost everything. When I view reality from my heart, as Nirmala instructs, the obsessiveness stops and is replaced with deep fulfillment and peace.

Nirmala's words are imbued with Spirit and seem to penetrate deeply, way beyond the mind. The ONLY other book that had a similar effect on me was Eckert Tolle's "The Power Of Now." It is rare indeed to pick up a book and read only a sentence or paragraph and know that you have crossed the threshold of mind and entered into the larger domain of Expanded Awareness. I love this book and can't wait to share it with others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Radically Transformative, July 18, 2009
By
Aralan (Rockville, MD, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I just finished reading Living from the Heart. What a wonderful book. The chapters on "Love is For Giving" were mind blowing. "What if it doesn't matter what your awareness touches but only that awareness is flowing" is radically transformative. It means it is all worth loving. It means that peace is right here in every moment. It means that I can be in love all the time by just allowing my awareness to flow to what is before me. I tried the exercises and they were amazing. It is true, deeply moving, just plain old fun and even silly to experience that when I gave love to the cold metallic metro train pole that I could feel in my hands and that was supporting me, I could be filled with a sense of love and incredible gratitude.

Its like I woke up in a new world this morning. Its like a wonderful game where I get to play with giving love to all that is around "me" as it appears before me, even the hardships. I feel like it could change everything from how I will walk to talk to eat. I will do it all with awareness, space, mindfullness, presence and love. I will change not because someone is telling me to do something more "moral" or "correct" but because it is deeply satisfying to surrender into being an instrument of love. Its the ultimate perfect equation where the more you give of love the more you feel of love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving from the Head to the Heart, July 20, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
Nirmala is a beautiful communicator of authentic spiritual insight and loving wisdom. I say this because I know from my own experience that his observations mirror that of not only my own experience, but also those of the most powerful and eloquent of spiritual teachers. This book is a particularly on point presentation of heartfelt wisdom.
Often our inability to make breakthroughs in the spiritual life is on account of our assertion that we "exist" in only in our heads. This book takes us out of that constricted dimension and into the broader and warmer dimensions of the heart, where real connection is made. I very strongly recommend this book to anyone seeking more balance, harmony, and most importantly connection in their life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relief from the traps of "me", October 9, 2008
By
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I first read one of Nirmala's books almost two years ago and it was my introduction to Avaita. It took what Pema Chodron's work had started for me to a more personal, practical level to apply in daily life. The most valuable "pointer" is how Nirmala, kindly, gently has us be with everything with a perspective of "allowing," not efforting to change anything. I've always had trouble being judgmental for not so wonderful feelings or experiences and his writings get right to the heart of being allowing and merciful of even the worst parts of my thinking and interpretations of life experiences. Nirmala, referring to your writings almost daily, I'm learning and practicing what "loving myself," my human nature, really means. His writing speaks deeply to me and compells me to practice living from the heart, even when I'm not. In person, at his retreat, his presence is also beautiful and a gift I am very grateful for experiencing.

5.0 out of 5 stars To the Heart of the Matter, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
This book is really well written, clear and precise and if the exercises are sincerly followed you will be amazed at the experiences. This book will point you in the right direction, if you're willing to journey you will not be disappointed. What i enjoyed most about this book was it went into good instruction and reasoning without being watered down, redundant, or confusing. If you are someone interested in self-improvement/self-realization this is a must-read. Relax, open your heart and enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Deceptively Simple And Remarkably Truthful, June 14, 2009
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
From the outset Nirmala wastes no time in challenging us to question our self-perceptions, to place less emphasis on our thoughts, to consider the heart and belly, and to experiment with the possibility that we are more even than these. Through both dissection and personal experimentation he leads us to an understanding of Being, Awareness and ultimately Love. This is no easy undertaking. Perhaps, because Nirmala truly is a gentle-man he is able to articulate matters of the heart and spirit with such a delicate touch and discerning eye. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that would like to... give themselves a gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and practical, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I've read quite a few books about non-duality and this is one of the clearest ones.

Nirmala manages to balance exploration practices and those are interleaved within more "non-duality talk", which serves to mean a way of phrasing that is experiential in what it tries to "talk around".

The practices he offers are "presence practices", meant to bring you to the here-and-now experience of the truth of your being. They are not unlike many other practices offered by non-duality authors. But he is extremely clear in his intention that you don't turn these practices into a practice - mechanical with an end in sight. Nirmala suggests you use these practices as part of an on-going inquiry into the nature of existence.

He does a beautiful job of making his book an extremely personal one, and if the right vibe hits you at the right time, you may well feel some direct transmission and get a feel for what he's talking about. Eventually (or maybe right from the start) you might also understand deeply that this is all that's needed...

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nirmala's teaching's in a nutshell !, September 27, 2008
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I've been familiar with Nirmala both as a friend and spiritual teacher for about a decade and this book resonates with me as a beautifully distilled overview of his approach to personal growth. Nirmala looks at the human experience from all angles, whether it be about the body, relationships, or love itself, his approach is always Heart centered. An easily accessible, easy to read (only 120 pages) book by one of the most helpful teachers I have known. -Akash (Vancouver BC)

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you my Most Perfect Teacher, September 13, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Living From The Heart (Paperback)
I was stuck in my practice when I first encountered Nirmala. Through his words and Satsangs I have been able to move forward, or rather not move. To sit in the stillness that resides in all of us. His teachings incorporated with the teaching of my other Most Perfect Teachers, have given me entry to a side of existence I thought separate, but was here all along, just waiting patiently for me to discover it. Granting me grace, peace, bliss and the ability to move through life enjoying all of it; the highs and the lows. He taught me to Surrender, and in that surrender find Light, happiness and joy in whatever situation I find myself in. Thank you again, My Most Perect Teacher.
