Book Description

July 16, 2006
You may not think anything about IBD or IBS is funny, until you read Elizabeth Roberts’ account of her emotional roller-coaster ride as she learned to live successfully with these illnesses. After spending most of her honeymoon on St. Bart’s in the bathroom, Roberts returned home determined to find out what had happened to her dream life. After months of tests, her doctors told her she had IBD and IBS and had to learn to live with these debilitating diseases.

But no one told her how! After she hit bottom, physically and emotionally, Roberts decided that to get her life back she would have to find the way herself. This book recounts her journey—sometimes painfully, sometimes humorously—through the process of learning to live successfully with IBD and IBS.

Follow Roberts on her journey as she learns to understand the needs of her body; participates in special diets; engages in support groups; and integrates Reiki, yoga, meditation, and exercise into her daily routine of success. If you, a family member, a lover, or a friend have been diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease or Irritable Bowel Syndrome, this book is a must read. You too can start to live again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read for the newly diagnosed, April 16, 2008
This review is from: Living with IBD & IBS: A Personal Journey of Success (Paperback)
Elizabeth Roberts provides an excellent first-hand account of having to learn of and then deal with UC/IBS. As a newly diagnosed member of the "UC Club," I was heartened to learn of her ability to manage this combination of maladies and get on with her life. Elizabeth is kind enough to provide a number of online sources for information and support as well as her own personal tips/tricks for dealing with an IBD.

I definitely recommend this book, especially to the newly diagnosed.

5.0 out of 5 stars You Can Live With IBD and IBS, August 25, 2006

Living with IBD & IBS: A Personal Journey of Success
This book should get 10 stars! I am a nurse who suffers with IBD (microscopic colitis) and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), along with celiac disease (gluten intolerance). Elizabeth gets right down to the nitty gritty regarding symptoms, dealing with doctors, alternative therapies, interpersonal relationships and is not afraid to lay it all out there. I just finished rereading this book and have recommended it to my internist. I have found it to be a lifesaver!

5.0 out of 5 stars A journey worth taking, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Living with IBD & IBS: A Personal Journey of Success (Paperback)
I have read many articles on the internet and several books on Inflammatory Bowel Disease. This is clearly the best of the best. This is a beautifully written book that chronicles Elizabeth Robert's journey from a person with an unclear health situation to a diagnosis and on to the depths of despair and back again. The book is written in a caring and relatable way that includes a holistic view of self management and awareness. The author puts herself out front in an honest and open way. A broad base of personal health management techniques are presented to include traditional medicine, Reiki, meditation, special diets, exercise, etc. The book is full of helpful suggestions and resources for anyone to pursue. This book is a must read for anyone with an immune system disorder, abdominal disease, or a general complex health condition. This book will make you laugh and cry, but most importantly will give you hope.
