I have participated in bible study for about 40 years. I recently came to a time in my life that I wanted to understand more in depth God's teachings. I purchased a study bible and have learned more in the last 3 years that I ever have. The bible presents the facts in a way that you understand everything. Mr. Swindoll's interpretations of the dates the books were written, the situations surrounding the writings, and the overall themes of the books are outstanding. I suggest anyone wanting to become more acquainted with God's word, and a way to make studying the word more satisfying, needs to get a copy of Chuck's study bible. I have bought three and given all three away. I am ordering two more. One is for me and I already have a brother in Christ that is anxiously awaiting his copy.

As a missionary, I have used the Living Insight's Study Bible for my devotational time since receiving it as a Christmas gift from my wife. His outlines at the beginning of each book have been most helpful. I can almost hear his voice as I read the outlines as though I were listening to one of his messages on the radio. He helps make God's word come alive. I can't understand why there has not been a second addition printed. Mine is falling apart and I am serching for a leather or hard copy as a replacement, however I will miss the highlights and notes that I've made in that tattered copy.
Chuck and this bible have impacted my life, to God be the glory.

This NIV Bible has little "insights" written in key places, by Swindoll. These insights are sort of like devotionals to make you think. I never found them particularly impressive. However, at the beginning of each book, Swindoll gives a good description of the book. This includes the author, date written, purpose, key ideas, and some background information. Some of this is very good, so the book gets 4 stars. The main drawback with this and similar Bibles, that have an editor's "insights" written in them, is that a new believer might think that Swindoll's opinion is the only opinion. Readers must be careful to distinguish Swindoll's words from God's Word.
